As Giffords is deservedly a national heroine because of how far she has recovered

Not sure why this makes Giffords a hero. Getting injured and recovering is something lots of people who are NOT politicians do without the fulsome praise of the media.

The media has sure lowered the bar on what it takes to be a "Hero" in America nowadays.
