Dead on. Perry badly needed to distance himself from some severe policy gaffes (in the eyes of conservatives, anyways), and show that his poor GPA in college was not really indicative of his intellectual ability. Instead, he went on to prove that those policy mis-fires were directly in line with his personal philosophy, and he probably wasn't capable of doing much better than a 2.0 at TAMU.
