I have a few questions about his decorations. He wears the Army GCM yet is a commissioned officer, so he must’ve been enlisted at some point in his illustrious career. His hat has a “50-Mission Crush” yet he doesn’t have any aviators’ badges. When I was in the USAF we were awarded the Army GCM because at that point (1963) the Air Force hadn’t issued its own GCM.

I proudly wore my enlisted AF GCM when I was an Army ossifer. What caused the most grief was my insistence on oak leaves on my Air Medal, instead of the Army's numeral scheme.

I'm not worried about what's on his chest as much as what isn't. Have you ever met someone with that much service (at least 10 years reserves alone for the reserve service ribbon) with their highest award being only a GCM? Even in peacetime with no one shooting at you, how do you jump out of aircraft - and with the Brits - without collecting SOME salad?

If this dashing lieutenant had worked for me, I would have found a reason to drop a few achievement medals on him for just showing up.
