Herman Cain: Yes, My Wife is a Democrat
TPM ^ | 11/08/2011 | Evan McMorris-Santoro

Here’s what we learned from Herman Cain’s appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live” last night: sexual harassment allegations can be funny and the elusive Mrs. Cain is, in fact, a Democrat.

“My wife is a Democrat, but that doesn’t mean that’s how she votes all the time,” Cain told Kimmel.

Not much is known about Gloria Cain, the Republican presidential frontrunner’s wife of 43 years. We were supposed to meet her recently, but the Cain campaign abruptly canceled a planned appearance on Fox News. Last week, the Atlanta Journal Constitution profiled Gloria Cain and discovered that not only is she a Democrat, but that she “has voted in Democratic primaries and runoffs numerous times since 2000 — including the 2008 presidential primary that Barack Obama won with 66 percent of the vote, according to local voting records.”

I have friends who claim they are dems, but their belief system (pro-life, small govt, etcetc) is what we call Conservative these days.

I think that a lot of these folks had parents who were staunch union members, it is like a cancer that never leaves you but doesn’t kill you.

I’ve heard it said that Kennedy (JFK) would have been a Republican in today’s parlance.

The Dem party has left behind a whole lot of folks who didn’t see the train leaving the station, so they still think the dem party they joined is the dem party of today.

It would still kill most of them to vote for a Republican. Something in their genes, I guess. It must be very confusing, being a Democrat these days.

Would you really divorce your wife if she became a democrat?

Stuck on Perry and Palin? STILL? Hilarious.

Palin and Perry are failed. Cain has peaked.

Repeat after me, It’s Saturday. The month is November. The year is 2011.

Now you go.

Given some of the crap the GOP throws at us, its not much easier to be a republican.

Well, the way the country is going down hill so fast, in terms of the growing population of covetous, socialist redistributionists, I am starting to wonder if the most important candidate issue, with a view to preservation of our liberty is their stance on the 2nd Amendment. All other freedoms depend on the defense of the concept of private property and that it belongs to the individual and not the state. Perry may actually be the best friend on that issue.

Also, if you listen to his interviews lately, he has sounded impressive, and has been laying out some pretty good arguments for his plan to restart the economy.

I was for Cain, but that support is slipping a bit here lately. Newt? Nobody touches him in challenging and rebutting liberal orthodoxy. But he also has a checkered past with cozying up to some collectivist policies. Kind of in limbo here.

My wife is far more liberal than I am. many women are more liberal than men. It’s only a surprise to those who want to be surprised.

I totally agree with you. the dems need to take a look in the mirror. I think, if they were honest, they’d be surprised at what looks back at them.

On one level, this is a non story. On another level - it’s a disconnect. I could not be married to a Democrat. Just couldn’t. It’s more than politics - it’s an entirely different world and national view of everything.

My mother was a demonRAT, she was a MENSA, and she was intellectually conservative, but her blinding love for FDR and JFK made her foolishly and emotionally pull the lever for the demonRATs {even for two elections AFTER her death}.

I registered demonRAT twice just to piss in their Wheaties in the primary elections {I'm in a closed state} but I understand how you can say that you couldn't be married to a demonRAT.

If my wife was a liberal there is no way we'd have made almost 50 years, because it's been tough enough with us agreeing on politics, and if we argued about that, it would never have lasted.

We both became aware of politics and realized we were conservative when we discovered how much taxes we were paying and that was back in the 60s.

We been conservative ever since because we always been pulling the wagon, and Lord are we tired of whiners riding in the wagon.

Taxed
