Yes, Paterno could have been fired, but no one was going to do so.

So there were more powerful people than him. They just decided not to exercise their power.

Paterno knew what was going on and chose to ignore it, getting the most wins was more important.

We don't know whether that is true or not.

Did you get a chance to read the indictment from the Grand Jury? That will help you know who did what, when and all the details.

No, just because there were those who had more authority then Paterno doesn't mean they had more real power.

Paterno knew that a sexual act between his former asst coach and a young boy was seen by the grad student.

Paterno thought reporting it to the next guy in the chain of command relieved him of any further responsiblity.

You can bet your life that none of the coaches allowed their children and grandchildren to be alone with Sandusky.
