Ok, I’ll ask the $64,000 question: why does building a pipeline require unionization of its workers?

Most of the national pipeline contractors are signed to the various union agreements using national agreements, this allows the trades to cross into different jurisdictions, pipelining is very specialized, the people who do it are travelers, they move with the work.
The unions provide very talented people, you cannot hire off the street and get the knowledge and ability's they have. Don't think so, try installing five miles of 36 to 54 inch steel pipe a day, cleared, trenched, welded, placed, tested, backfilled and restored with green hands.
