The Democrats broke a bit of a losing streak in state judicial races, yesterday, Nov. 8, when David Wecht handily beat Republican Vic Stabile to win a seat on State Superior Court, which is the 15-member body that is the intermediate appellate court for civil and criminal cases from county Common Pleas Courts.

There was a lot of ticket splitting, however. Republican Ann Covey appears to have beaten Kathryn Boockvar in the race for Commonwealth Court, which is the nine-member body that is the intermediate appellate court for issues involving taxation, banking, insurance, utility regulation, eminent domain, election, labor practices, elections, Department of Transportation matters, and liquor licenses.

From what I am seeing - lots of fiscal conservatives won in the school board races defeating well funding union candidates.

Property taxes are about 80% school taxes.

School taxes go about 75% to pay salaries/benefits/pensions.

And - with the “closed shop” of public teacher's unions and compulsory union dues - you can do the math.

This was not a good election for the Dems despite the loss in Ohio.

I still can't believe Westmoreland County went GOP.

Montgomery County, though, went from Republican to Democrat. Republicans maintained their control in Berks County by retaining the County Commissioners, Sheriff, and all but two row offices that were won by Democrats running unopposed.

You betcha.

The only downer was a demonRAT won as mayor of Greensburg.

The pubbies won the Westm'd comish, the row offices, judges {most} local races and drilling for Marcellus shale in certain townships {none in W'md were even on the ballot}.

It was a very good local night for the pubbies.

Connecticut local election went to the DEMS — but 2 open seats (both Democrat held) in the state house and senate went Republician.

not really, Middletown’s mayor was a Republican (but it is a college town - Wesleyan University is located there so the Marxists (oops Dems) signed up a lot of new voters.
Some of the other towns were swing towns, so I don’t think it was a bad night. Two special elections for the State Senate and Assembly went Republican (the Senate Seat was in Meriden - a blue collar city and it went R for the first time in about 50+ years! The Assembly seat is in a Republican town, so it switched back to the GOP.
