eCat: A Week In The Media Reviewed
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2011
Well, that was quite a week.

After over 10 months we've now seen the eCat break through into the mainstream awareness. In the past week alone, we've seen the eCat go from relative obscurity to being covered in some of the larger and well-known mainstream press. It's still not on the 6 o'clock news, but it's a start.

MSNBC wrote a brilliant article "Italian cold fusion machine passes another test".
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/45153076/ns/technology_and_science-science/#.Trb9qnIrySo

Fox News were fairly unbalanced when they finally got their teeth into the story, but they still left themselves some wriggle room in the title of the story just in case it all goes pear shaped and they need to bail out - "Cold Fusion Experiment: Major Success or Complex Hoax?".

The Daily Mail also got in on the act with surely the worst story of the lot. A badly researched piece littered with innacuracies and sensationalism. They neglected to mention that many researchers DO BELIEVE that cold fusion / LENR, exists. There was no reference to other international research showing excess heat in various experiments, nor did they actually speak to anyone. (Perhaps they should stick to alarmist health stories and the daily exercise routines of various b-list celebs.- Ed)
They also printed a photo claiming Rossi had said he has produced a pattern of triple track atoms, which is at the heart of the cold fusion theory, when Rossi has claimed nothing of the sort and the photograph has nothing to do with Rossi's claim.

CBS were more on target with a short but balanced article. They took the trouble to speak to an actual human being who knows something about LENR - MIT professor and cold fusion supremo, Peter Hagelstein.

"Are physicists generally, and DoE in particular, so sure that excess power in such experiments is impossible that the very large number of experimental results which show an excess heat effect clearly should continue to be ignored?" Hagelstein asked.

Other stories worthy of mention are the recent articles in Forbes and today, Wired.co.uk's David Hambling wrote a good piece
http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2011-11/06/cold-fusion-heating-up
on what to expect as this story inevitably evolves.

We've heard some accounts of journalists being ridiculed by their more mainstream science aligned counterparts for writing about the eCat. This is a form of information supression and should be resisted at every turn. We applaud the journalists who've stuck to their guns in the face of intimidation.

Despite the mainstream starting to get involved, the well dug-in big establishment mouthpieces of TIME, Nature, New Scientist and The Economist still predictably refuse to budge on reporting anything. My prediction is that they will continue to ignore anything eCat well into the forseable future. More scoops for everyone else then I suppose, while THEY will be remembered for passing up the news story of the century.

We told last week of how AP News had attended the eCat 1MW demo and then subsequently refused to report on the story despite having the exclusive! We were Twittered to stop asking questions, sit tight and wait for Godot - unsurprisingly AP are still sitting on their elbow and no story has since materialized. In fact, it's actually quite ironic as they've now been scooped by everyone else despite being the only mainstream news agency present - (that's quite an achievement - is there an award for something so dumb?) Ed.

This is a very interesting period of time where you can see exactly which mainstream publications are the most controlled, who has an agenda to serve, and who has the most shareholders with conventional energy directorships on their board. Who's interests are served by keeping quiet about a new non-polluting clean energy technology and which rich white men would rather have a their gonads trapped in a rusty bicycle chain that allow the ecat onto the market.

The ecat is in direct competition with the very powerful multi TRILLION dollar energy industry players, many of whom have controlling interests and powerful friends in the media, so watch out for dirty tricks, false stories, personal attacks on Rossi's character and an entourage of disinformation goons descending on the comments sections of ecat articles.

It's an old phrase, but it's highly relevant in this game.

Follow the money.

Unfortunately, if Rossi hired a bunch of actors to pretend to be the customer reps, created an elaborate year-long special-effects-derived series of demos, bribed, hypnotised or otherwise fooled Focardi, Levi, Kullander, Essen, Bianchini, Stremmenos.

Did he convince a bunch of Greek crooks to set up a dummy company called Defkalion to pretend to fight with him over the non-existent eCat, to perpetuate the illusion and spin it off into a competing mirror-scam?

Has he convinced his former partners to set up another company called Ampenergo to pretend that they had a contract for The Americas for a substantial sum or that they just did this with no proof because they have worked with Rossi and trust him because he’s such a fine fellow?

Who arranged for Piantelli, Miley and a host of others to try to fool the world into thinking that cold fusion was real, got NASA, SPAWAR, The Defense Threat Reduction Agency and The Defense Intelligence Agency to say nice things about the field, got Bushnell to make a fool of himself, sold his profitable company to his ex-partners in order to spend that wealth on a multi-million dollar scam.

Was he certain that once he got all the above ducks in a row he would pretend to sell the first device and then reel in the true target of his dastardly plan – the second (this time genuine) buyer of a 1MW plant that will net him $2 million dollars until they want their money back or sucker a $100 million dollar deal under the table? He has experience in pulling the wool over all these idiotic eyes and knows that they will just take his word for it and not want to test if his 1MW plant can heat a small village without truckloads of coal or oil or a big fat electric cable coming into the container from beneath the floor (no you can’t lift the carpet!)

In order to pull this off, Rossi had to risk discovery by interviewing all the people he subsequently fooled so that he could only invite the gullible Professors and not the brilliant anonymous posters on the Internet who surely would have found him out – then all bets are off.

I’m with the guys who think that Rossi is an idiot and they are all geniuses .

Media Finally Paying Attention to Rossi

http://energycatalyzer3.com/news/media-finally-paying-attention-to-rossi

The media is finally beginning to pay attention to Andrea Rossi and the e-cat. The Mail one of the largest and most important newspapers in the UK and the world published an article about Rossi and his cold fusion device on Saturday November 4 one week after Rossi demonstrated and sold it in Bologna.

1 MW E-cat under construction Courtesy e-cat news

In the article writer Martin Robinson gives a fairly sympathetic portrayal of Rossi and his claims. He also notes that the physics establishment, the US Patent Office and the US Department of Energy believe Rossi’s claims defy the laws of physics. Unfortunately Robinson seems to ignore all the speculation that the US military is interested in e-cat and the well known fact that the US Navy is researching cold fusion. He also ignores established scientists who believe in Cold Fusion. Robinson’s account is fairly brief hopefully more is coming.

The US website MSNBC (operated in conjunction with the Left Wing cable news network) posted the best article yet to appear in the mainstream media at least in the English-speaking world. The article by Natalie Wolchover of the Life’s Little Mystery blog that states Rossi has tested a cold fusion machine. She gives the mistaken impression that energy from e-cat can be converted directly into electricity and doesn’t mention steam yet she does do a good job.

Unlike most media types, Wolchover did interview an authentic cold fusion expert Peter Hagelstein part of Cold Fusion Energy Inc (a consortium of physicists and others working on the process). Hagelstein, a principal investigator in the Research Laboratory of Electronics at MIT; noted told Wolchover that the e-cat is similar to other cold fusion experiments but did not elaborate. He also recommended that Rossi’s claims be taken seriously until they are disproved.

The media it seems is finally waking up to e-cat and other cold fusion devices. It should be noted here that this is not the first time the media has ignored a major scientific and technical breakthrough even when it was obvious. Nobel Prize winning physicist and retired Cambridge Professor Brian Josephson noted that the media ignorance of e-cat mirrored the way reporters ignored the Wright Brothers airplane experiments.

In their excellent account of the airplane’s invention Kill Devil Hill: Discovering the Secret of the Wright Brothers authors Harry Combs and Martin Caidin noted that even Orville and Wilbur’s hometown newspaper; The Dayton Journal, ignored the fact they had invented a working airplane. Even though the brothers made hundreds of airplane flights in a open field that could be seen from a commuter rail line that hundreds of people rode everyday. The Journal only reported on the brothers’ activities when its readers complained the journalists were ignoring obvious news.

Even when reporters wrote about the Wright Brothers’ work, they got the facts wrong often reporting the bicycle mechanics had built an airship (a blimp or dirigible) and not an airplane. It was not until nearly five years after the first airplane flight that the media started paying attention. Then it took public flights in France to make the press see what an incredible invention the brothers had created.

So don’t expect much attention from the media until Rossi or some other inventor starts selling a working cold fusion device. Then when that happens there will be some attention. Many reporters by then will be claiming they were covering the story all along.

And here's the part the Kevmo and Rossi don't want you to know about...

This article is about criminal charges against Rossi for fraud for filing false invoices to take advantage of a "Law on the earthquake" (Earthquake-related subsidy?)

This one is about the toxic waste from Rossi's alleged "garbage to oil" invention. According to this article, the "output" from Rossi's process was no more than 3% hydrocarbons. It appears that this was a syndicate of Rossi's company and several others to dump their toxic waste by claiming that Rossi was converting it to fuel.

Rossi's defense was that the Italian govermnent and the Mafia conspired to change the environmental laws to make him look guilty when he had done nothing wrong. His defense didn't work, and Rossi went to jail.

According to this article, Rossi's "process" for converting garbage into fuel was to "mix the waste with lime" before sending it to the dump site.

Here's an article about Rossi's gold scam. Fake invoices for shipping gold that never arrived at it's destination. More jail time for fraud.
http://dodfuelcell.cecer.army.mil/library_items/Thermo(2004).pdf

This one is particularly interesting. Rossi sold the U. S. Army on his "invention" of a vastly more efficient Thermo-Electric (TE) Power Generator" that would convert waste heat into electricity.

"Dr." Rossi (notice that the Army thought, for some reason, that Rossi was a "Dr.") could improve the efficiency of these devices from "the current science of 4%" to 20%

Rossi produces a small-scale device, which appeared to show this dramatic increase in efficiency. (Although, as is typical of Rossi's demos, the testing methodology appears to be flawed. They only took measurements "every 1/2 hour", leaving as unanswered what the device was doing when no one was actually monitoring it.)

After this demo, Rossi's factory burned down, and Rossi left the country. He claimed that it would be more "cost effective" to build the actual devices in Italy.

None of the devices produced by Rossi worked. 19 of the 27 devices were totally incapable of generating electricity "for a variety of reasons." The remaining devices produced only 1 Watt of power, not only significantly less than the results promised by Rossi (800 - 1000 Watts), but less than the exiting technology provided. In other words, they didn't even work as well as devices he could have bought off the shelf.

The report carefully avoids drawing any conclusions about Rossi's involvement in this. I suspect that is because it doesn't help a military man's career by admitting that he was the victim of a con artist.

The very first line of your post:
Andrea Rossi's Petroldragon Story by Andrea Rossi
Do you really think that publishing Rossi's self-serving autobiography adds any credibility to your argument?

You seem to think that because Steve Krivit published it, it must be exonerating. Remember that Krivit started out being a Rossi support (as well as a "believer" in cold fusion in general). It was only after he spotted obvious flaws in Rossi's demonstrations that he realized that Rossi was a fraud. Krivit, unlike people like you, was willing to examine the available data, and found there wasn't anything to back up Rossi's claims.

***Yes

***No. It is simply where I begin to say that these are the facts on the ground. Rossi didn’t go to jail for conning customers. He went to jail for stuff like tax fraud, the same revenuers that accepted his fuel taxes that he paid. So on one hand, they accept that it is a fuel so they can get taxes for it, but later on they call it something else and tell him to clean it up. They did not give back the taxes they accepted for it as fuel. Why do the seagulls have so much trouble with accepting this as the beginning point? It acknowledges he went to jail, etc. After posting about his past all of a sudden there is this resistance to the information and less room for distortions about Rossi. You claim I don’t want freepers to see it, but that is patently false on the face of it.
