But not prosecuting emboldens the next lot...and so on...Convicting, maybe.
Prosecuting Bill Clinton helped him win the sympathy vote, and emboldened him for four more years.
If you're planning to kill the King, you'd better be successful, or else.

Pursuing justice through law does not equate with a banana republic. Under the current administration we are a banana republic that ignores laws and justice. Marching them into court and trying them for crimes against the republic will reinforce constitutional government.

Marching them into court and trying them for crimes against the republic will reinforce constitutional government. Spoken like a true French Revolutionary.

Or a constitutional patriot. Your desire to hold criminals harmless because they hold office is the foundation of tyranny.

Your desire to hold criminals harmless because they hold office is the foundation of tyranny. I have no such desire, nor have I stated any such thing.
I have merely pointed out, as any of the founders would in view of how the brutality of direct action in the French Revolution proved, that the first and preeminent check in the tyranny of man is the BALLOT.
Our electorate has devolved to such an extent that still 40% approve somewhat of this idiot and his cronies.
Going after "their guy" with a judicial branch hatchet while "the people" still have some fealty toward him is dangerous.
If the people do not elect honorable men to office, then the office cannot be made whole. Worse, you can end up unravelling the entire fabric if you start pulling on that thread.
Vote them out first. Uncover their misdeeds. Then sow the appropriate derision and lessons such that the electorate learns THEIR mistake....that which they still don't seem to understand.

Could not disagree with you more. We are either a nation of laws or we are not.
Criminal proceedings may not be appreciated but they are the only safegaurd against tyranny such as was shown in the French Revolution.

We are either a nation of laws or we are not. Agree with you completely.
And right now we are not a rational nation of laws. You are talking about fencing with axe murderers egged on by 40% of the audience from Mad Max.
It's a precarious state.

Well put. Progressives are trying to change us from a republic to a democracy. Under their rubric the party in power is the law. The courts have all but fallen as a bulwark against the implementation of the progressive Utopian vision. If the republic falls at the ballot box there will be little recourse short of secession.

If the republic falls at the ballot box there will be little recourse short of secession. I can't imagine assembling a better effort today than what Robt E Lee did when we last failed to achieve that objective.
And the U.S. Army has more than just smooth-bore cannon today to trample any such effort.
We can start a moon or asteroid colony perhaps, but that's about the extent of the post USA options, short of Beijing or Tehran nuking DC.

Then, Sam, our only hope is in the law and specifically our Constitution. The ballot box will not resolve our problems if there is no incentive to follow the Constitution.
There is a political movement in our country that opposes Constitutional government. That viewpoint must be made illegal. The law cannot tolerate its opposition if we are to remain under the law. Allowing progressivism legitimate standing is, as is being proven, the end of Constituional government.

Read Bastiat. He can tell you all about this in a few dozen pages.

Following Bastiat’s reason, which I admire, the solution to despotic government is simply to refuse. Refuse to be taxed. Refuse to be legislated. Refuse to participate in government programs. And so forth. This need not be extensive for an individual. It must, however, be extensive for numbers of people who oppose socialism.
The medical legislation we are so exercised about will die an instant death if 10% of the Drs, patients, clinics, insurance companies and so forth simply refuse to participate.
The revolution is not one of guns but one of choices and decisions. It is nonviolent civil disobedience and it is the only effective means we have to take our government back from progressives and establish ourselves, again, as a Constitutional republic. We simply refuse to participate in numbers large enough to bring down elitist demagoguery.
This is the activist component of the Tea Party.

Criminal proceedings may not be appreciated but they are the only safegaurd against tyranny such as was shown in the French Revolution.
(Emphasis added.) Not only are criminal proceedings not the only safeguard, they would be counterproductive in this case.
"Going Galt via Bastiat" is probably a good retreat alternative if we fail to cycle to power next November in the election.
