I’m skittish about drawing the one-of-a-kind Christ into comparison with modern political scenarios. This is interesting, but it isn’t really deep theology and could be misleading. Pontius Pilate was personally inclined to do the right thing — he understood that the charges being hurled at this strange Jesus of Nazareth were nonsense — but he ended up selling out to the crowd. That’s plain old corruption, not “liberal.”
Pilate sounds more like a modern day RINO.
Actually it was the conservatives who were persecuting Christ. The Pharisees were about as conservative as you get. I’m just agreeing with those above who said that this was a completely ridiculous analogy to make.

I think a better word would be Populist which are people that have no moral convictions just going along with what they think the people want.
