Herman Cain: GOP Candidates "Getting On My Last Nerve"

Posted on 10/19/2011 5:40:25 PM PDT by cotton1706

COSTELLO: So in the next debate, you're going on the attack?

CAIN: I'm going on the attack.

COSTELLO: You're ready to do that.

CAIN: Yes, I am.

COSTELLO: Really, you've been the nice guy through all this.

CAIN: Yes.

COSTELLO: The likable guy.

CAIN: I've been trying. But they're getting on my last nerve.

His last nerve, like when a certain governor (next to him) pretends he doesn't know the difference between statne and federal taxes.

Let me repeat, a governor of a state for four years, who thinks that changing the federal tax system will somehow change state taxes. Or pretends that he doesn't know that the people currently pay federal taxes on top of state taxes. And if he doesn't know that, he shouldn't be president.

Take them down, Herman. One by one, if necessary.

Cain's amiableness is an asset. I hope he doesn't turn mean or something. He can be amiable and determined at the same time.

Cains needs put more value on communicating DIRECTLY with the American people. He needs to have answers ready to questions he's obviously going to be asked about his proposals, especially, but not only, in these debates. The American people deserve more than just, "Go analyze my proposals." He needs to be ready with simple direct answers that explain, for instance, why his proposal is not a VAT tax.

I do want Cain to maintain his nickname of the “Happy Warrior.”

However, a happy warrior is still a warrior, and sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Just do it happily, Herman!

And, good grief, where do I take a number to stand in the “they’re getting on my last nerve” line?

That was despicable and pathetic to see GOP candidates using misinformation and falsehoods to attack Cain’s plan.

My goodness, there are enough legitimate things to discuss about 999 without these doofuses throwing stinkbombs out there.

You don’t want to get on Herman Cain’s last nerve:

What you can’t hear (the guy was continuing to argue while Cain was talking)

It’s not a VAT because it’s not a VAT. It’s a sales tax. I think those that think or say it’s a VAT are either stupid or ignorant and are being intellectually dishonest.

Like lots of people around FR. They simply are not educated enough about the difference between at VAT and Sales tax.

Same way that Michelle said last night about “What’s to stop a liberal President and Congress from changing 9% to 90%??” Yeah, that’s true but again, being intellectually honest about it would require one to admit that almost 50% of Americans pay no taxes and that Cain’s plans include a conversion to a FLAT tax program.

One step at a time.

He will not do it (he is probably just letting off steam and is probably sick of the whole juvenile thing); as a businessman with that kind of calm, thoughtful demeanor, he is disgusted with it just as I am, this is not in Herman Cain's personal constitution, don't worry, he will rise above it all and stand Reaganesque in the next one. He will save his fire for Obongo where in the General Election he will scorch his ass (rhetorically speaking here) in the debate on economics and jobs.

Having said that, Cain SHOULD demand, along with the other conservative candidates and the one libertarian and the one Democrat (Huntsman), that ROMNEY AND PERRY NOT BE PLACED NEXT TO EACH OTHER NEXT TIME ON STAGE. This is clearly what the liberals want, they want this visual so bad.

A sales tax could absolutely be a value-added tax. All you need is to fully tax each purchase between supplier and customer in the supply chain. My understanding is Cain’s proposal taxes only the net MARKUP at each purchase point in the supply chain, which totals to only one tax on the final product. But Cain needs to simply and clearly EXPLAIN this to the American people which would help both Cain and the American people.

The VAT part of of Cain’s proposal is when he also taxes value-added by taxing the cost of labor at every stage in the value chain. I’ve heard it described as a “Dutch style VAT”.

9-9-9 does NOT tax markups at each purchase point in the supply chain, so your understanding is incorrect. Scroll up to see the diagram from justsaynomore...

What’s to stop a liberal President and Congress from changing 9% to 90%?

What to stop a liberal President and Congress from doing that to the existing tax code? A nonsensical argument from people desperate to find some way to defend the corrupt inept status quo in the tax code

Not to worry, Cain said the same thing specifically re: Romney before the last two debates as well.

no it is called a shameless lie. It is moronic for supposed conservatives to cling to the current 35% corporate tax rate and the 15.9% payroll tax in order to keep a minor tax deduction.

To obfuscate about that labor deduction by fraudulent calling the 9-9-9 plan a VAT is childish and dishonest.
