On eve of debate, Rick Perry ‘pretty confident’ he’ll win
Houston Chronicle ^ | LYNN SHERR, Parade Magazine interview - Oct 23 issue

Posted on 10/11/2011 2:45:11 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

...LYNN SHERR: Do you feel as if the other candidates have been ganging up on in the debates?

RICK PERRY:“When you come into the fray and you’re leading in the polls, you’re going to get attacked by everyone. I get it. I’m a big boy, and I know how to play that game. “

Your critics say you’re not electable...

“Well, I disregard that. Americans are looking for somebody to stand up and tell them the truth, and I have a record to back it up. Ultimately, if I can explain my heart, my jobs record, and my philosophy to Americans, I’m pretty confident that I’ll win.”

You’re a very successful fund-raiser....The word that’s been applied to you is “cronyism.”...

“That’s the same old, tired criticism which comes when people don’t want to talk about the real issues, like how do we create jobs......"Decisions in Texas are generally legislative, with the lieutenant governor, speaker, and governor making them together. There were no unilateral decisions from my office dealing with those issues. And I’ll go back to my record. I’ve been elected three times as governor. The people obviously have confidence in me.”

Your wife, Anita Perry,....

“She’s very smart and loyal. She’s not predisposed to be a public figure since she saw how her father, a small-town doctor, had to be shared with all these other people. She’s also a great patriot. “

Some of our recent presidents have admitted to experimenting with drugs...

“No, ma’am. Not unless you call caffeine a drug. Or cold beer or whiskey.”....

So are you voting for La Raza Rick, the open borders career politician and RINO or for Conservative Herman Cain ? It’s a simple question, Simon.

Nice try. Won’t fly. That’s why every Cain supporter is ignoring it like they would the crazy aunt in the attic.

OK, then, tell us how the concept of a level playing field for all involved - a level playing field instead of the same outcome - is socialist.

Last I checked, the concept of free markets is largely based on all involved having to adhere to the same basic rules and no one getting special treatment from government.

If anything, Perry and his state funding of politically-connected business is a far more socialistic concept than Cain wanting cronyism eliminated from government policy. You are so driven to attack Cain that you don't even realize that the point you are raising is more damaging to Perry than it is to Cain. In other words, you are getting more pathetic with each passing day.

Herman Cain:

“The role of government, in my view, is to maintain an equal balanced playing field for the citizens and for our society. Not to throw it out of balance.”

3:30 into discussion: Herman Cain on John Stossel Show, Fox News

From his lips to your ears -- then out of your mouth spun with new meaning and then the segway to Perry -- tisk-tisk dirtboy -- you lose.

It's redistribution.

Tell us, CW, how equal and fair enforcement of rules for all involved equals redistribution.

Both teams on the field in an NFL game have to play by the same rule book. Refs are not allowed to favor one team over another with their calls. Refs are incapable of giving points to a team that the team has not earned. Using your 'logic', a ref calling a pass interference penalty against a defense abusing the rules is somehow redistributionist.

But I can see how a Perry supporter hates such a statement, given how much state money Perry has doled out to the politically connected over the years via state funding. So you must feel obligated to try and turn Cain's statement on its ear.

It's telling, CW, that when asked to state how you view the quote in question as socialistic and redistributionist, that you can only repeat the quote like the brain-dead political parrot that you have become.

But go ahead, bleat it again. It's all you've got.

Where is Cain's record on this?

If anything, Perry and his state funding of politically-connected business is a far more socialistic concept than Cain wanting cronyism eliminated from government policy.

Spoken like a true opposition poster.

Let me help you out. A free market government has a vested interest in encouraging local enterprise; it does help the local economy when they can support (buy stock, give seed money, forgive taxes for a time, provide a workshop, etc) business, innovation, engineering and science -- for the good of their citizens (jobs, larger tax base, economic draw for more business and citizens). The 2003 Texas Enterprise Fund helps with this. People who have examined it have found that it is conservative and that it is not politically driven and that it goes to a vast number of businesses.

If you have another point of view I can't help that. But to me it is the function of government to be small and as Gov. Rick Perry puts it, create an environment that is friendly to business by 1. Don't spend all the money (sound advice for everyone as well as for a sound government) 2. Have fair and predictable regulations and tax policy 3. Don't over sue.

I've heard Gov. Perry say publicly, several times, that government needs to get out of the way so that investors will feel safe investing their money, knowing that they will have a good chance to make a return on their investment.

Mrs. Perry and I once had a discussion about putting cushions in our high heels. She's a modest, quiet woman who seems shy. She was sweet to my granddaughter; a big plus in my book.

I can also identify with the comment about small town doc's families. Patients love to inspect my grocery cart and to note what I'm eating - and drinking - in restaurants.

I love these answers from the Governor:

Some of our recent presidents have admitted to experimenting with drugs. What about you?

“No, ma’am. Not unless you call caffeine a drug. Or cold beer or whiskey.”

Governor, how would you make the White House more like Texas?

We’d have Blue Bell ice cream and Hill Country barbecue.

Caffeine, first!

I'd go for East Texas barbecue, but the rest is okay, even with this Baptist girl.

He did not say "equal and fair enforcement of the rules."

Cain said, " maintain an equal balanced playing field for the citizens and for our society."

My gawd. You attack Cain for wanting a level playing field - something NOT redistributionist - and then turn around and defend government intervention in free markets - EXACTLY the kind of activity you accuse Cain of being for.

Yours is a truly remarkable act of political depravity. And not remarkable in a good way.

Explain how the concept expressed the two statements is different, CW.

Oh, and do more than just repeat Cain's quote.

Equal balance. Ie :

Stop unfair propping up of some industries while putting undue regulations on others.
Stop bailing out segments of industries that are suffering because of mismanagement ie Chevy
Stop unfair regulations on Insurance industry that does not allow cross state marketing.
Allow domestic energy development without taxing some while subsidizing others.
Allow market place to choose winners and losers rather than government.
Stop promoting the development of the dependant class by requiring job training for welfare recipients.
Are those the kinds of things you were looking for?

How interesting. Didn’t think about it like that. Makes sense — but then you’re like a bug under glass.

I only partaially agree. Mitt Romney knows Cain is not a real threat because he has no campaign set up in the states and has little money to do so.

That is one of the reasons, Romney is encouraging you to vote for either him or Cain.

Our first goal - and the focus of our energies - should be to stop the biggest threat.

The biggest threat to our Nation is Obama. To beat him, we have to have a conservative win the Republican Primary, so that we don’t have a repeat of the “stay at home” voters that we saw in 2006 and 2008. In those elections, the least informed and the least conservative chose our candidates.

Our biggest threat in this primary is the chance that Romney will be the default choice. Our energies simply must be to expose Romney as the RINO he is.

Go listen to the entire interview. Cain is all over the map.

Still waiting for you to explain exactly why you think Cain's comment promotes redistribution. Your steadfast refusal to do such speaks far louder than your own claim.

I guess you are reduced to the liberal concept that if you repeat a lie often enough, people will start believing it. Pitiful.

Yeah, but how long will that last? Cain rise in the polls gives him access to money.
