The rundown on getting a government paid InfoSec and information assurance IT education.
If someone told you the Federal government would provide a full ride for your Master’s degree in Information Security and pay you a stipend of 15K/year (recently raised for 2011), your initial reaction would likely be denial and, then, curiosity. The formal name of the program is Scholarship for Service (SFS), and the graduates are often referred to as the Cyber Corps (think Peace Corps but for protection of U.S. systems and data as the mission).
It’s a real program that started roughly in 2001 and is still going strong a decade later. All the FAQ material is available here. In order to receive the Master’s degree:

When I got out of service (1973)a guy I'd gone through Officer's school with, and who turned out to be about the worst officer (or friend) possible, who had gotten out two years earlier was:
A Corps of Engineers employee, on salary.
Hired virtually immediately after discharge.
About to complete his Master's Degree studies.
On the Engineer's dime.
And due for a GS-12 upon graduation.
He was studying Sewer Science (couldn't have been engineering because his BA was in liberal arts) and on tap to be some kind of regional honcho.
The sewer part seemed fitting but it's hard to laugh when you're unemployed and have "baby killer" on your resume.
Tell me about it. Or even former employee of the Evil Capitalist Arsenal of Baby Killers". I have both on mine.
