It was Hermann Goehring who once said, “When I hear the word ‘culture’, I reach for my gun”.

To which a renowned poet responded decades later: “When I hear the word ‘gun’ I reach for my culture”.

Actually, the Goehring attibute is incorrect according to some sources on the web. The phrase apparently originated in some stage play (I don’t have time to look it up now.)

When I say ‘culture’, I mean what is sometimes and all too often nowadays dismissed as high culture, which certainly is not about finger snapping, ‘rap music’, Tom Clancy or Thomas Kinkade.

Cuture is what they do to buttermilk.

Steve Jobs took an idea, made it work, marketed and made millions. And now he's dead. All in my life-span. Hat-tip to SJ.
