Rick Perry's Dream Act
The Rick Perry Report ^ | September 29, 3011 | Joe Hyde

Rick Perry supported the modest Texas Dream Act, whose name has unfortunately been libeled by the Democrats' national Dream Act that is akin to the Texas law on meth and steroids, and the Democratic Party's version offers amnesty too. The Texas Dream Act simply offers children of illegal immigrants, who have completed at least three years of Texas high school before graduation, entrance to any Texas state school at in-state tuition rates. The law demands the beneficiary apply for full citizenship to the U.S.

In contrast, the federal Dream Act, which has yet to pass, provides scholarships and taxpayer direct subsidies and amnesty for all illegal aliens wishing to attend college in America.

I worked at a Texas Youth Maximum Security lock-up for a couple of horrible years. We pay $99,000 per kid, per year to keep these scum away from the rest of us. If they others can keep clean and go to college, it’s a bargain. If the Feds did their job, we wouldn’t be having this discussion.

Just a few months ago it was anyone but Ubama. Now every candidate that has a chance to beat him is flogged every minute of every day.

Rare is an anti Romney post. They claim to be waiting for Palin, but I smell Romneyrats.

Yes, I've noticed a funny smell emanating from some of the more virulent ones on here.

I don't interact with them and I don't read their posts anymore.

We're having a drought....I don't want to waste valuable resources having to take that many showers every day. ;-)

Good job.

You’ve got all the right pieces together in one place for an informative brief on the Texas in-state tuition issue. Anyone looking for a quick read with all the basic facts, this is it. Contains links to associated reference material too.

My state of Colorado just voted down in-state tuition back in April. I don’t support it either. As far as I can tell, however, its really a states rights issue with the final decision coming on a state by state basis. Gov Perry is a huge supporter of the 10th amendment and its key feature, federalism. The Founders envisioned the states to be like small laboratories for experiments in democracy. People need to get informed.

What encourages illegals to enter Texas is the failure of the federal government to secure the borders. If the Feds would do their job and secure the borders, most of the problems Texas is having with illegal immigration would subside in short order and eventually be resolved for the most part.

If you're not on Perry's campaign staff, you should be.

Good information. You'd be a valuable asset.

The ones who benefit by the exception to the non-resident tuition are already integrated enough to graduate and be accepted to college.

A couple of friends and I have been talking about this for years: what sort of affect does dumping them out of our schools, where they thought they were at least equal to and the same as Americans, and, the day after graduation, we tell them they are criminals?

We didn’t create this mess and the best thing for everyone is to stop the adults long before their kids become integrated at all.

But we would have to live with the consequences of a bitter, angry population that is driven underground or toward crime. The choice to do good or bad with their circumstances would be theirs, their being here as adults is a crime, and crime is a crime.

However, I’ve seen the effects on people living as illegals. They are prime victims of “alcades” and “abogados” offering false hopes of amnesty. Unscrupulous employers and landlords take advantage of them. They are the unemployed, uneducated and uninsured that the left loves to hit us with.

“The Texas Dream Act simply offers children of illegal immigrants...”

Complete nonsense.

The children of illegal immigrants, if born in the US, would be a US citizen no different than Rick Perry,

The Perry Dream Act grants in state tuition to illegal aliens.

Geezus. We buried Romney the last time he ran. It’s not necessary to do it again. Everybody on FR thinks he stinks on ice.

I presume being an illegal in America is better than being a citizen in Mexico; millions of Mexicans can't be wrong. Yet illegal immigrants are, as you say, often used, and I think it hurts many ordinary Americans in a back-handed way.

There are Americans who profit at the expense of both their fellow citizens and the Mexican immigrants. It's a pity we can't deport them.

“I need all the help I can get. The Rick Perry Report needs all the help it can get,,,”

I would be happy the help you with the Rick Perry Report.

Here is a start:

In 1988 he headed the Gore campaign in Texas

1n 2008 he endorsed Rudy

As Texas governor he has:

Signed legislation to provide in-state tuition for illegal aliens.

Signed legislation to prohibit teens from using tanning salons.

Signed legislation to require high school athletes to be tested for steroids.

Signed legislation requiring adults to wear seat belts in the backseat of cars.

Attempted to mandate that 11 year old girls be vaccinated against HPV.

Signed legislation to give away billions of Tax dollars in the Texas Stimulus bills which gave hundreds of million of dollars to Formula One Racing, The NFL, the NBA, Sematech and Samsung,

Let me know if you need any more help!

And U.S. law doesn't allow illegals living here to become citizens

Backing up for a sec, U.S. law doesn't even allow illegals to live here. The Texas "Dream Act" - - along with every other version of the "Dream Act" - - serves only as a magnet for illegal aliens. Illegal aliens need disincentives, not incentives.

Perry has a real problem, no matter how many lame excuses are made on his behalf.

Reagan Man, amen to that. The illegal immigration problem is causing all of this. If the feds could guard the border, there wouldn’t be a need for any of this.

One thing I have observed about Rick Perry over the years is that he has been more pragmatic than ideological in his leadership style. It has gotten him into trouble with the conservatives, but overall his record speaks for itself.

Now, if we can just get Perry to figure out how to explain all of this in 30-second sound bites while seven people are sniping at him on stage for 2 hours, he’d be ‘da man’!

RE: In 1988 he headed the Gore campaign in Texas
Not true (or questionable).
See: http://rickperryreport.com/faq/rick-perry-and-al-gore

RE: 1n 2008 he endorsed Rudy
So what.

RE: Signed legislation to provide in-state tuition for illegal aliens.
He did more than that. See:
http://rickperryreport.com/faq/rick-perry-illegal-immigration

RE: Signed legislation to prohibit teens from using tanning salons.
Well, you wouldn’t want minors to have abortions, but you’ll allow minors to risk skin cancer?

RE: Signed legislation to require high school athletes to be tested for steroids.
Texas high school football is very competitive, especially 5A. If there are not strict laws against this, everyone will be cheating, and hurting themselves (more than they already are).

RE: Signed legislation requiring adults to wear seat belts in the backseat of cars.
errrrrrg! Don’t like that one, but you have to take the bad with the good, especially when the candidate has a 10-year record as an executive.

RE: Attempted to mandate that 11 year old girls be vaccinated against HPV.

RE: Signed legislation to give away billions of Tax dollars in the Texas Stimulus bills which gave hundreds of million of dollars to Formula One Racing, The NFL, the NBA, Sematech and Samsung,

I’ll look into that one.

Joe

RE: the “Dream Act” - - serves only as a magnet for illegal aliens. Illegal aliens need disincentives, not incentives.

My answer:

That argument does not take into account that even in-state tuition costs are high enough already. The thought that someone would risk their lives and the lives of their children to sneak across the border to pay $15,000 per year to attend Texas A&M as a Texas resident is silly.
