Hang on for a tick, CT. Remember, nuclear weapons DO cause EMP, that is KNOWN. We DO have EMP weapons, therefore, and they ARE realistic.
Now, let's understand that the hype about them is a little over the top, but the phenomenon is real and destructive.
Just not as destructive as the survival blogs claim.
In an EMP burst, even unprotected hardware has been known to survive, right in the EMP 'kill zone'. If EMP was actually performed by a terrorist state, I would wager only 20% of the equipment would be burned, and only then in a 300 mile radius -- IF they got everything right.
No one said EMP wasn’t real, it just isn’t real bad.
One thing these “EMP kills all things electronic and electrical” hyperbole types fail to see right in front of their faces is that if EMP actually did that then how did we get all those images and measurements of nuclear blasts from all those years when they didn’t protect at all from EMP?
EMP has taken out a few street lamps, a telephone cicuit, and a few odds and ends but the average Joe never even knew it happened. *yawn*
Ice storms, blizzards, hurricanes, and other natural disasters have done more harm and society didn’t collapse and zombies weren’t roaming the Earth.
“We DO have EMP weapons”
Actually, we don’t. No warhead of that type exists in our nuclear arsenal.
