Guest workers have no path to citizenship, they go home when there is no work, they only come in when employers can't get Americans for the jobs. Guest worker means the employer is sponsor. That's what we've been trying to get for years and amnesty crowd refused to accept it. Where on earth have you been?

The guest worker program people were proposing would be available to people living in Mexico who applied for the program in Mexico and traveled here for work for a short period of time and then returned home.
Perry’s plan is to take the illegals here now and legalize them by calling them “guest workers.”
If that went through then politically speaking it would not be possible to deny that group voting rights for very long. The logic that if these families have the right to legally live here, raise their families here, work here, pay taxes here and so forth will not fly with the American people that they should not be entitled to vote in the elections in their place of residence. Americans are not big on the idea of “second class citizens.” That could fly in Germany with the Turks, but not here.
What we have learned as have the Germans and everyone else, guest workers don't go home. And how many guest workers do we need when 25 million Americans are looking for full time employment?
The Bureau of Labor statistics for August 2011 show a national unemployment rate of 9.1 percent, including 16.7 percent for blacks and 11.3 percent for Hispanics. 25 million Americans are seeking full-time employment. Despite the economic downturn, the U.S. continues to bring in 125,000 new, legal foreign workers A MONTH. This includes new permanent residents (Green Cards) and long-term temporary visas and others who are authorized to take a job. This makes no sense.

Not alive when we had the guest worker program before were you, I will bet you are young, maybe in your 30s but probably younger. I remember the brassero program, which was a guest worker program such as you are pushing, most of the illegals that received amnesty back in the day were left overs from that program. They don't go home, they stay here, they also drive down the wages for citizens and legal residents because they work under the table, just as the illegals do today. There would be no change, except that we would not be able to deport them.
Guest worker programs don't work, they've been tried and they failed.
How many illegals do you suppose are working right now? And here I sit looking for work every day and not able to find a job. I want the illegals gone so there are more jobs available for the Americans who are unemployed!
