Actually, the first time the “Palestinian state” fires a rocket or mortar shell, it would be an act of war and Israel could hold “Palestine” collectively responsible as a state. When you’re held collectively responsible, it means retaliation can be directed against ANY military-related asset, including industries, infrastructures, and port facilities in your “country.”

but not only do they want to be a “state (i.e. a nation!)”, they want UN membership status! Which would mean any Israel retaliation would drag that useless organization even further into the mix.

Yes, I think this is the most important of all the observations on this thread.

If the Palestinians become a state (separated from Israel of course) then they will have to start acting like one. If they keep doing what they have been doing, the Israelis would have every right under international law to invade, conquer, and ANNEX them. (They should have done this with the West Bank in 67,IMHO)
