I'm pretty sure that she didn't "hook up" with Malcolm X. That's based on some very superficial similarities in style between Obama and Malcolm and on the idea that the Muslim leader was a very different sort of person from what most accounts tell us. The theory is a little embarrassing.
But I suspect you may be looking at things the wrong way around. We know that a few months (maybe as little as two, maybe a little more than that) after meeting Barack Sr. Ruth Baker went to Kenya with him and became his third wife (and second American wife). So whether or not he really is the President's father, Barack Sr. was very much the kind of guy who's very quick to marry. When a man is that insistent and determined and impulsive he can win over insecure women with ease.
