Hello....I'm New Here

Posted on 09/08/2011 6:05:28 AM PDT by SpinRabbit

Hello everyone. I recently found this site and I enjoy it, though I find it a little difficult to navigate. I would describe myself as a former liberal who outgrew his college education. I look forward to lively discussion, and I would appreciate any tips on using the forum. Thanks.

this would be a hugh and series mistake.

To understand some of the purposeful misspellings, see the FR Lexicon.

Why is there such disdain here for “newbies”Because They are always double posting.

Welcome SpinRabbit. If you are joining the forum, you’ve probably been lurking a while and know most of the protocol. If not, someone will be sure to let you know, just don’t take it to heart. I for one love a fresh perspective.

Welcome to FR. Contrary to Huck, I’d advise start posting right away. That is the only way you’ll learn. Except, limit your posting to responses for a while.

This is a HTML site that has been simplified for non-HTML users, so It’s pretty easy; and most posters are very helpful with instructions on how to post photos, and such.

Just ignore those who want to call you a noobie. Every gathering of sundry people has somebody suffering from dispesia who wants to take it out on others. LOL.

There are several levels of peer review on FR.
1- Polite agreement
2- Polite disagreement
3- Caustic sarcasm
4- A private email to "straighten you out"
5- Wicked Flaming
and if you do not pass peer review with the Mods
6- The dreaded ZOT

Be prepared for all levels of peer review...you will be graded, there are quizzes, and buy a helmet.

Lastly, learn the rules about Maureen Dowd posts....we have rules.

Just think of this as your first day at a new school. Don’t try too hard to impress or you will seem like a ...tryhard. Don’t post too much too early and don’t be too controversial or you will be lucky to leave with your nads in tact.

Remember that there will always be people here who know a lot more about any given subject than you so don’t be a blowhard or again it’s negative nads for you.

FInd your niche and learn from all the clever people here.

Oh and BTW “Laz would hit it” is no recommendation!

It’s a rule that all n00bs must post a thread extolling the virtues of Abe Lincoln.

A good robot joke would not be out of place.

Which of course leads to reenacting the Civil War/War of Northern Aggression for the zillionth time here on FR. I suggest a new tradition of extolling the virtues of Paris or Agamemnon so we can reenact the Trojan war for a little variety.

All good points - but be careful even with a “sincere” question...
During the Nov 2010 election open thread, I asked an “academic” question abt thread hijacking and posted it to the WRONG person by accident...wow, you would have thought I called Reagan a socialist!
All is forgiven now but there are some folks here (I love them nonetheless...) that need “special” handling.
Welcome and ENJOY...best site EVAH!

I agree with you 100%....when I was a newbie it really hacked me off when some one who was losing the discussion would drop down to the level of calling me a newbie.
