First off, recognize that Bonehead does not care one whit about either Backman or Paul. That said, if he had any nads, he would write his majesty the following note:
Dear Mr. President,
I see you are asking for a joint meeting with Congress at 8PM on September 7th. Unfortunately, two of my esteemed members are not able to be here at that time due to a prior commitment. I am sure you can understand how sometimes one cannot put off vacations, political fundrazing, or other public speaking events simply to be present for what is a speech that could be given at another time. Surely it is not so urgent it requires it be given at precisely that date and time.
Accordingly, I am offering two alternatives. Please schedule your speech for another day or if another date is not available and this is indeed something that must be addressed on September 7th, I will ensure all my collegues are in attendance at 9AM to hear your proposals.

Speaker of the House John Boehner sent a letter back to President Obama regarding the president’s request for a joint session of Congress on September 7. However, Mr. Boehner told the president that the date would not be available and proposed September 8 instead. Below is an excerpt of the letter:
