Rick Perry Hasn't Told Us Where He Stands On Much Of Anything

H/T danielvito

A C4P commenter hit the nail on the head today. I decided to post his comment here, because it's exactly how I feel.

Question to any Perry supporter!

Name one foriegn policy position, 1.9 has. For example, is he for waterboarding, does he want to stay in Iraq/Aghanistan, Does he want to stay in Libyia, what's his position on China/India/Russia, does he want to continue to fund Nato/United Nation, what's his position on Iran, if they get a nucluer bomb, Israel/Palestine problem.

Does he want to continue to import oil from abroad, does he want to continue to bail out Eurpoean banks, What will he do to Mexico vis a vie illegal imigration, what's his stance on wiretapping, drones over Pakistan, etc.

You see how little we know about this chump. Sarah has had a Facebook post over the last three years on all these subjects, further, she had a 5 point foreign policy address a few months back.

We can expect Slick Rick to steal all of Sarah's positions. If Rino Fox would only tell the truth about this empty suit!

The same could be said about Perry's domestic policy positions. What are they? Is he in favor of drilling in ANWR? What's his position on off-shore drilling? He supported TARP in 2008. What is his current position on bailouts? Where does he stand on school choice? The list of issues for which Perry's position is unknown is endless.

I checked Perry's campaign website hoping to find answers to some of these questions, but came up empty. Many of his supporters have directed people to his recent book, but he's already backing away from much of what he wrote. When will the press start demanding answers? The upcoming debates should be interesting.

Your fact 2 is not a fact at all. The labor shortage by ‘illegals’ would be filled with those who are unemployed. Just ask the people in Cali who can’t find construction jobs.

Fact 3-—there are all kinds of people turning down jobs because they have good unemployment!

Yeah right? Boo-hoo for the illegals! No post office! Oy. If the intent of that article was to garner sympathy, it isn’t working.

I won't be ignoring your response to this...I'm leaving town!

So, what you are actually saying is that he was trying to get his DRIVER out of a ticket.

Who will be picking my food? The do-nothing lazy bums on the government dole. Make those receiving unemployment checks work in the fields. It ends freeloading and with no jobs, illegals have no reason to be here.

I don’t think people understand that there are cities in Texas like Laredo that are essentially divided in half by the border, much like Niagara in New York; people cross those borders all the time, with legitimate passports and visas.

Also, the NumbersUsa folks, who gave most of our candidates REALLY BAD MARKS (Perry=D-, Palin=D), said that Perry was very strong on border security, and would rate him Excellent if he published a position paper on what he intended to do as President, now that he is running.

So even the harshest immigration critics don’t buy this stupid talking point that Perry is bad on the borders.

Yeah Rick Perry’s plan for protecting the border is the same one that Barak Obama and Janet Napolotano have ascribed to.

It’s fantastic right?! Heck might as well leave Obama in office.

******************** Laredo Texas to the right and Nuevo Laredo, Mexico to the left side with Rio Grande in the middle.

In the midst of all these hateful attacks both on GOP candidates and FR members (and mindless defenses of candidates as well), let me say: thanks for a civil and thoughtful reply.

I don't know how far off Palin and Perry are on how to deal with the millions here now.

Perry was on Laura Ingraham's radio show Thurday. I missed most of it but the audio LINK, which I think is accurate, has zero questions on immigration. Interviewers and debate mods really need to ask better questions than the ones (Fox News GOP debates) about campaign staff. They can get to those after they run out of important topics.

One downside is she supported McCain's "earned citizenship" in the past,

Yes, and one troublesome statement Perry made in 2001 was LINK: President Fox’s vision for an open border is a vision I embrace, as long as we demonstrate the will to address the obstacles to it. An open border means poverty has given way to opportunity, and Mexico’s citizens do not feel compelled to cross the border to find that opportunity.

I don't think that's the way it works in the real world. An "open border" does not stop illegal border crossing, except in a cynical sense in which there would be no legal border.

However, before I read your post I was not aware of the 2006 Perry statement 5 years later, in 2006 LINK: But to me neither amnesty nor mass deportation is the answer. The first unfairly rewards those who broke our laws, and the latter is not only unrealistic and unenforceable, but it would devastate our economy. That’s why I support a guest worker program that takes undocumented workers off the black market and legitimizes their economic contributions without providing them citizenship status.

I think it is a very good sign that he at least seems to recognize (or did 5 years ago) the deadly threat of providing them citizenship status. However, I also believe it's not that easy to provide guest worker programs without a "path to citizenship" as he suggests. Anchor babies, no visa exit tracking by the feds, rogue federal judges and POTUSes, and the little surprises hidden in 3,000 page bills in congress can chip away at the intent of a guest worker program that is not supposed to provide a "path to citizenship."

There is also, of course, the matter of high unemployment for those who have a legal right to be here, as you also noted.

Thank you for the Perry 2006 link. I want to be tough on all the candidates, while also being fair to them.

Or I could be saying that he was using his position of power and influence to circumvent consequences that average folks have to face on a normal basis.

Average folks like his driver? Again, you claimed to have a youTube video of him trying to get out of a traffic ticket. There’s nothing on the video of him asking to not get a traffic ticket. and he wasn’t driving. Claiming that a passenger of a vehicle was trying to get out of a traffic ticket is disingenous to say the least.

On the other hand, when I get pulled over by an officer, I do anything I can to try to convince him not to give me a ticket. I don’t even know what happens when a hired driver gets a ticket — maybe the poor guy would lose his job.

It was intimidation clear and simple, even the governor conffessed his poor judgement on the matter yet you seem to be in denial. He’s like the messiah to you.
