Foodsaver bags are not a good choice for long term (multi-year) storage. They won’t keep the oxygen out and will not hold a vacuum for that length of time. I had some bags sitting on the shelf for about 5 years, they wouldn’t hold well enough to seal and cracked with handling.

Yup. I studied up based on what I read here. I just ordered me a supply of 5 mil mylar bags and 02 absorbers from USA Emergency Supply. I figure I'll put the Foodsaver vac sealed supplies I've already packaged into a gallon mylar bag with a couple 100cc 02 absorbers and heat seal the whole thing.
