The year was 1968 and I was an AT&T Communication Technician CWA union type (only because I had to be). We were out on strike along with Illinois Bell. I remember this 5 month long strike like it was yesterday. The local company IBT types were IBEW union members and according to news releases were cutting cables in cable vaults, shooting at company trucks driven by supervisors, blocking company garage entrances and more.

The company's response was simply to stop all negotiations until the violence stopped. The union FINALLY got the message and ended up settling for a dollar an hour less than the previous offer.

I like that, there has to be a tool to shut this union down.

a permaent impass due to vexatious conduct which allows the company to proceed with permanent replacements.
