Ryan for President?
The Weekly Standard ^ | 08/16/2011 | STEPHEN F. HAYES

Wisconsin congressman Paul Ryan is strongly considering a run for president. Ryan, who has been quietly meeting with political strategists to discuss a bid over the past three months, is on vacation in Colorado discussing a prospective run with his family. Ryan’s concerns about the effects of a presidential campaign – and perhaps a presidency – on his family have been his primary focus as he thinks through his political future.

“He’s coming around,” says a Republican source close to Ryan, who has been urging the 41-year-old to run.

Wait a minute! Some of the political insiders (Krauthammer, Ingraham, etc.) have told us the field is already set?

He better be sure. You know Perry, Romney, Bachmann et al have considered and prepared for the oppo research. If Ryan has not (and he may have), he’ll need the best possible consultants to work through those issues in a timely manner. All it takes is one carefully revealed skeleton to destroy the effort.

Ryan’s presence would certainly elevate the level of debate, IMO. A good thing.

Given the field, he’d be my choice.

Talk about over-hype.

The whole young guns thing is thin marketing BS. sure he can talk budget numbers, but that’s a big snooze fest. Plus, his Budget was mostly hype - didn’t balance for 10+ years, he voted for the Boner bill, etc.

No thanks.

Bachman is still the only true conservative currently in the race.

PS. Perry = Amnesty

Having met the man and tried to work with his office in opposing federal grants and pork spending, I can heartily say no thanks.

He is a media figure, but not much of a representative - he doesn’t listen and couldn’t care less. He’s just as bad as Feingold was - self-important and too focused on the “higher cause” to give a rip about anything or anyone else.

Ryan is just another DC insider with a slightly different gimmick.

Mention any name and the negatives come streaming out like a volcano erupting. For every negative you can find for my candidate I can find one for yours. If we want the perfect candidate with a 100% voting record on our side of the issues then we might as well cancel the election and annoint “The One” with a second term.

Paul Ryan.

Pragmatist. Conservative. Willing to fight the Liberals, full-force.

I would support him 100%, even over Perry “DREAM Act” Perry.

Yeh I’m with you. Ryan is too young to be President and too inexperienced. We have had that experiment going on for the last 2.5 years.

If Ryan wants to run for President some day he better quit charging $15 per head to ask him a question at his townhall meetings. His constituents are his boss and they have every right to be ticked off at him and every other so called conservative that voted for that horrific debt bill and created a 12 person SuperCommittee to basically now run the Congress.

I’ll stick with Michelle Bachmann.

Yep, they’ll come streaming out from left-wing trolls on FR who are trying to sow divisiveness among conservatives.

You are exactly right. It's almost like an iPhone/Android debate. People love the person or the hate the person. No real middle ground on anything anymore.

Anyone else know more about him than what we’ve seen in the budget talks? I’m very intrigued and as log as I don’t find out he wants to legalize illegal aliens or is pro gay marriage/pro abortion I’d have to say he’d get my vote.
