Texas governor Rick Perry - supporter of the Trans-Texas Corridor - said lots of things on a trip to Mexico today:
..."I don't think [immigration "reform"] is that difficult of an issue if Congress would have the maturity to sit down and really discuss it and cut out all of the mean rhetoric and really talk about what is a solution to this issue," Perry told a news conference.
Regarding immigration reform, Perry highlighted the importance of developing a foolproof biometric identification system to track individuals and to ensure that they pay taxes and "live within our laws."
Did I just hear boots off in the distance, or was I just imagining things?
He suggested offering renewable, 24-month visas for those who follow such requirements and "incarceration and/or deportation" for those who do not.
He added that, under such a system, he would support a "free flow of individuals between these two countries who want to work and want to be an asset to our country and to Mexico."
Since those are (I believe) two different countries, they will always have competing interests. Thus, it would appear that Perry foolishly thinks people can completely be an asset to both at the same time.
Perry also said Texas has given a blueprint for securing the U.S.-Mexico border to the federal government.
"We know how to deal with border security, and you don't do it by building a fence," he said. "You do it by putting boots on the ground; you do it by using the technology that's available ... and coordinating very highly with local, state and federal officials.
Why do our elected officials keep making trips to Mexico and making questionable comments there? A past example comes from WA governor Chris Gregoire but Nancy Pelosi set the gold standard back in 2003.
Lack of experience isn’t that much of an issue for VP.
What’s a VP do? Shake hands and go to ceremonies?
The biggest job they have is tie breaker in the Senate.
That said, I think Sarah has demonstrated a mastery with OJT in the past two years.
But many discount OJT as a resume.

Rick Perry was trying to address the border in the only reasonable way you can address the border.

Few remember 1964.....We suddenly had a sitting VP become President in a matter of hours. This is always on most American voters minds. That fact alone is why many look so closely at the qualifications of the VP. Also, not too much in the past, in 1945, another VP was vaulted into the Oval Office.
It is not such a lack luster position as it may seem.
Pull your head out of your rear and quit spinning and making excuses for Perry. We would think better of you if you admit you are wrong about Perry now then to watch you keep looking like an idiot trying to make him into something he’s not, a conservative!
Perry realizes this and even though fencing does work in urban/ high population areas (where it has been installed), allowing authorities to use natural and technological barriers where fencing is impractical is the logical way to proceed.
Throwing out half-truths without explaining what Perry actually believes is totally disingenuous.

Here’s the facts.
People breach borders for a reason.
You can build walls but they will breach walls if there is gain.
We need to stop rewarding illegals, and we need to lean on Mexico for social reform.
I wont say that Perry hasn’t rewarded illegals, but he has leaned on Mexico.
As to his rewarding of hispanic illegals, you have to weigh the fact that a large constituency of Texas is hispanic.
Let’s face the facts, this place was once mexico.
It didn’t get to be Texas without some people getting their nose out of joint.
Texas is a great state for medical care. (I’m blessed to serve in Texas.)
What has Perry done to get E-Verify passed in Texas??

“Over and over”, is right! SCP is Romney bait while pining for the non candidate. I decline to do his fact searches for him.
1) The governor of Texas, whoever it is, cannot and will not support fencing the border. The situation in Tejas/Texas is completely different than the catastrophe in Southern California. There are prominent Tejano families that have been ranching and otherwise making it there since 1848.
2) An effective restrictionist immigration policy is not popular nationally, and it virtually guarantees defeat for a Republican presidential nominee. That’s very bad for heavily impacted areas, and may well lead to the loss of at least part of California. But wishing won’t make it so. No Tancredoite can be nominated, and, if one were nominated by some miracle, he/she would lose in a landslide.
