The military can’t intervene because that makes citizens the enemy. (Not debating it here: you just don’t go there if you want the nation to stay intact.)

The police can’t intervene because there’re outnumbered and the spark for the event (at least in London). They can’t induce enough casualties to stop it without crossing the line and becoming criminals themselves.

Hence a value of the 2nd Amendment: it’s the locals drawing the line. Stuff stops right quick when neighbors say “no” in unison and stand the line.

The NG was called out in Detroit in '67.

Spot-on!

“The way we police in Britain is not through use of water cannon,” Home Secretary Theresa May told Sky News. “The way we police in Britain is through consent of communities.”

Um, might want to reconsider the water cannons...

Although I’m not in agreement with your first two points, I agree with your conclusion completely.

2nd Amendment rights — together with a well-armed citizenry — is far better than any other alternative way of handling this situation.

Not debating? Sounds like you are stating an opinion, annointing it as the truth and don’t wish to have to defend it.

The way our society works is that when crimes are committed, the police respond, NOT the public. That’s what has always separated the United States from 3rd world countries where they employ the “Might Makes Right” scenario... which is exactly what the rioters are trying to inflict upon the locals in the communities they ravage.

To disqualify the police from being part of the solution, would be to cave to the rule of the rioters.

If the police are outnumbered, then it’s time to call in the National Guard. That doesn’t “make the citizens the enemy” as you claim. The enemy is still the rioters. And the required solution is still the same: Stop them at all costs. THEY are breaking down society and the DECENT, LAW ABIDING CITIZENS deserve no less than protection. It’s been done before. And it works.

The one thing you NEVER do is capitulate with law-breakers or you have given up your freedom from intimidation and the looters will only become more emboldened.

I do believe that business owners have a right to defend their stores from looters and I believe that a well-armed proprietor is one who stands a good chance of defending his property. I believe individials should be allowed to arm themselves so they can fight back from home invasions.

But I don’t think you can leave it to locals to be their own vigilante patrols, especially when other law-enforcement is available. Otherwise, that would lead to anarchy.

The previous is MY statement of opinion. I am not annointing it to be the truth and welcome debate.
