NOW defends Michele Bachmann against Newsweek

One of presidential candidate Michele Bachmann’s major political opponents is defending her against what it says is blatant sexism on the part of Newsweek magazine.

Monday, the National Organization for Women (NOW) spoke out against Newsweek’s most recent cover, which features an extreme close-up of Michele Bachmann and the title “The Queen of Rage.”

“It’s sexist,” NOW president Terry O’Neill told TheDC. “Casting her in that expression and then adding ‘The Queen of Rage’ I think [it is]. Gloria Steinem has a very simple test: If this were done to a man or would it ever be done to a man – has it ever been done to a man? Surely this has never been done to a man.”

The eyes were strange but not really a bad picture of Michelle unlike ANY picture of Deborah Wantstobeaman-Shultz.

This is a very weak test. Newsweek has done similarly degrading covers many times before, with George W Bush or other Republican politicians in the past.

I keep telling people that in 2012 I’m voting for the hot chick.

If Sarah gets in the race, I’m gonna have to make a decision.

You know Newsweek sucks

Who reads Newsweek for political news? Newsweek has the 51st largest subscription behind "Women's Health", "Birds & Blooms", "Country Living", "Golf Digest", "Shape", and "Every Day with Rachael Ray", but ahead of "Fitness".

Perhaps they feel this cover will thrust them ahead of "Women's Health" into the number 50 spot.

Not just NOW, The Slate is also defending her.

I'll say it, kudos to both for this.

"Why would the harpy’s at NOW want to get ahead of this?"

They apparently are politically savvy enough to realize that their credibility would be at risk if they didn't.

PHOTOSHOP CONTEST?

Newsweek editor Tina Brown has some unflattering pics in “images” on google. How’s about a contest to find the worst one?

Then enhance it a bit?
