In Wake of Historical US Credit Downgrade, Bachmann Calls for Geithner to Resign

'Barack Obama is destroying foundation of  our economy one beam at a time...'

_____________________________________________________________________

“This president has destroyed the credit rating of the United States through failed economic policies and his inability to control government spending...

President Obama is destroying the foundation’s of our economy one beam at a time.

I call on the president to seek the immediate resignation of Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner and to submit a plan with his list of cuts to balance the budget this year, turn the economy around and put our people back to work.”

_____________________________________________________________________

Blogger/columnist RS McCain is actually on the road in Iowa to cover this week's campaigning, and says in his American Spectator column that Bachmann -wind at her sails- is about to launch a final bus-tour leading right up to the straw poll next Saturday, August 13th.
Of course, just four months ago this same Treasury Secretary Geithner promised everyone on Fox Business News there's "no way" the US will lose it's premium credit rating- typcially, this administration's word and a quarter will get you a cup of coffee at 7-11 (small).
Bachmann surely has the moral high ground following this debt fight, as most all of the other GOP candidates were nowhere to be seen while she was battling both the Left and GOP old-guard almost single-handedly... same as in resisting the Boehner-Obama "budget cuts" scam previously.
But with Rep Bachmann leading in Iowa just a week prior to the Ames Straw Poll, the long knives are coming-out as less-talented and capable politicians start to see their aspirations evaporate... to be expected I suppose. ...and every Congressman who voted for the S365 atrocity should too. They set forth the plan which was the final credit rating straw.

Mike Huckabee on Fox News (approximately 8:45 AM EST, 8/6/11) suggested Steve Forbes or even seemingly of more interest to him, Donald Trump as the replacement for Timothy Geithner.

I’ve heard disturbing reports that John Corzine (former NJ gov., Goldman alumni, huge 0bama donor)is being considered. That CANNOT be allowed to happen.

Of course, my pick, Paul Ryan, won’t be considered...at least not for 18 more very painful months.

If Geithner goes, the next confirmation process may take all the way to the next election. Timmy, with his criminak actions, got a pass...in these times, no one will agree on his replacement.

One thing is clear. Some fiscal responsibility will be imposed one way or the other. Its probably going to take removing Obama from office but it will happen.

Exactly, the markets will instill discipline if nothing else

It’s just the sane half of the country would like to limit the damage in attaining the necessary level of discipline, eh

Yea, I did hear about Corzine earlier.

I have heard Paul Ryan’s name thrown around for this position as well. Maybe Gov. Huckabee did not mention him knowing he would never, never EVER be appointed by Obama. Gov. Huckabee said in fact that no one he would want would be considered by Obama anyway.

I think Paul Ryan would be good too. I love the idea of Steve Forbes and have always wished he would have had a chance to be doing SOMETHING like that for our country. I have never forgotten his run at the presidency and was always so impressed by his financial common sense. Donald Trump, well that is such a new thought for me, but it sounds fascinating actually. I think The Don would do a wonderful job in that position.

Of course, Gov. Huckabee is right, Most likely NONE of those guys would make it on the Obama team. I would guess all of them would be FAR more honest than what Obama needs in that position (and yes, I said NEEDS.. as far as Obama’s involvement is concerned).

Its kind of why I’ve got mixed feelings on the whole debt ceiling vote. Nobody likes it, myself included but its time to stop bouncing the economy off the ground and nose dive it in so we can sort out the survivors and bury the dead.

Absolutely !!!

We HAD a balanced budget amendment ALREADY in place.
it was called a “debt ceiling”.

and Boehner threw it away, and gave Obama 2 trillion more!

Obama should have been forced to do this BEFORE he got another penny!:
“ and to submit a plan with his list of cuts to balance the budget this year, turn the economy around and put our people back to work. ”

Bachmann is the only one saying what i need to hear...

The problem is that it WILL take removing him from office to impose the fiscal responsibility. Then, the unwashed masses who live off the tax-payers’ largess will immediately be up in arms against the person who finally does the sane thing. I would imagine that even a number of Freepers who feel the extra pinch will do a turn-around and want the “good old days”...
