I haven’t set foot in a McDonald’s for years.

Yeah, I always use the drive-thru too.

Hildy,

I may or may not agree with you. But, I want to make the choice for my family, not having the Government pressuring me or telling me what types of food or what portions I can feed my family.

The issue of obesity is solely blamed on nutrition by our PC society. The truth is a number of factors (heredity, medical issues, side effects of certain drugs, mental issues, etc) contribute to one appearing obese. I am fortunate to be slim, but I don't appreciate those in our society who claim to be “open minded” so eager to express prejudice against anyone over weight.

Last time I checked, Tom and Virginia were my Parents, not Barack and Michelle.

Portions may be bigger, but the Parents of a Child decide what "portions" the Child is allowed to have. I certainly hope you are not saying that the Government should be in the allowable food portion business. I think the idiot Mayor of New York has that pretty well sewn up, at least until Michelle jets in with her Husband for a date. The Government has no business telling (blackmailing) a private company what it should or shouldn't do, and the spouse of the President certainly shouldn't have that kind of power.

I guess the Wife of Hugo Chavez might have some pull, but I live in America not a Banana Republic, unless Obama get reelected that is.

When I was in England, I went to a Burger king. They had a veggie Whopper and a “bean burger” Whopper. I ordered a regular Whopper and it was terrible. Super over cooked, tasteless meat.

Mickey D's has got a win-win situation here ...

They get Michelle off their backs - but the little brats are gonna whine about smaller portions of fries with the Happy Meals and DEMAND that Mom buy an additional small order of fries for them ...

Ca-Ching !!!

BTW: Here is what Michelle scarfed down recently to the tune of 1800 calories ...

BUT, in Michelle's defense, she also DID have a Diet Coke ...

I work with several people originally from Texas and they're oft speaking about how Blue Bell is the best ice cream out there.
I finally had some, while in DFW this past May. Although it was good it is no match for Häagen-Dazs.

No, it’s not your decision..it’s the decision of the business..THEN you decide whether you want to buy it or not. Sorry, don’t agree with you on this one..McDonald’s made a decision on how they want to sell their product..The government didn’t do this, McDonald’s did.

I see nothing wrong with reducing portions

Agreed, but who determines the sz of the portions, the individual or the gov't?

I don't particularly care to see women clad in sweatpants unless they are in a gym or en route to or from one. This doesn't mean I'd support legislation or a law that forbade women to dress like uncouth hillbillies.

McDonald’s made this decision, not the government Now it’s your turn to decide if you want to give your kids the portions McDonald’s CHOOSES to give you. You can always go to Carl’s JR. or Wendy’s or Burger King and get all the crap you want. You’re wrong on this.

Sorry Hildy, I'm not wrong on this.

We now have Companies fearing the repercussions of a Political Class that has the power to cause trouble for those who don't agree with the “it's good for you” mantra.

Having a compliant Media and countless Liberal / Progressive Groups threatening Boycotts and Protests if the targeted Company doesn't go along with the Plan is par for the course and I'm sure McDonalds knows that all to well.

Just because the plate is full doesn't mean you have to eat it all in one sitting.

The Parents teach the kid good eating habits, not McDonalds and certainly not Michelle Obama. If the kid is alone at McDonalds, the kid can buy themselves two Big Macs and the Parents wouldn't be the wiser.

I think you can still buy a Big Mac without showing I.D.

You’re being ridiculous. McDonald’s made a business decision...now you make a personal decision. It’s called business. If you want your child to have a regular order of fries, you are free to buy it. I, for one, am happy McDonald’s did this. I will repeat what I said before...Children today know nothing but huge portions and that is one of the reasons they are do damn fat. And you’re talking to someone who could live solely on McDonald’s french fries for the rest of my natural life (of course, if I only ate french fries it would be such a long life!). We will agree to disagree on this one.

A healthy life requires portion control..we eat something like 35% more than we did in the 1960’s.

That's not how I remember the sixties. Everything was bigger, better, and tastier back then...even more so in the fifties probably. Personally, I think all this talk of "portions" is complete and utter nonsense. Aside from the small population that's probably genetically predisposed, the reason we have so many fat kids is because of laziness. I don't even think kids do chores anymore like cut the grass. Back in my day I had to use one of those old fashioned push mowers. Big, bulky and heavy. Try pushing one of those when it's been sitting out in the rain for a week.

Anyway, the thing that really pisses me off is that you can't get a decent potato chip anymore. "Royal Feast," "Granite State," crispy, greasy and golden brown. Ah, those were the days. Damn food nazi's all....

Hildy,
Yes, we will agree to disagree.

I understand it is a business decision and they are free to do what they want. Maybe I'm getting a bit cynical in my old age, but I don't think I am being ridiculous in questioning the Nanny State Political motivations that are apparently in play here.

As I said in another post, the Market will determine how this turns out. I just don't want the Michelle Obamas of the world dictating how Parents raise their children.

Anyway, it is what it is. The country has bigger fish to fry at the moment. I never to go McDonalds anyway, unless it's the only choice I have at the time...

Take care.

Why doesn’t Moochelle just make a menu for them?

I mean McDonalds doesn’t know how to do it themselves, obviously

Maybe she can design one ‘state approved’ menu and ALL the fast food restaurants can seel that same thing.

After all you have to make it fair- cant have one chain have a better menu than the others...

Bryers as the best the Guar Gum in the recipe!

Haagen-Dasz only has cream, sugar, and vanilla. You have to add your own Guar Gum if you want to make it like OTHER ice creams
