'Social isssues', to the extent they require any type of governmental 'embrace', were evisaged to be matters for the several states to work out by their respective residents.
FedGov was specifically chartered with a very limited brief, the subsequent cumulative violation of that intent having delivered us into the clutches of Leviathan.
“The Founders would surely disagree with you”
Oh really? Last time I checked, the Founders mentioned the God-given right to life in the Constitution. So you believe they would support a right to abortion? Or the undermining of the backbone of our society, the family, by gay “marriage”? I find it interesting that you think the Founding Fathers would support these abominations.
I have had pro-life events that our local “tea party” group refuses to advertise, because they “don’t want to touch social issues”. Someone posted a thread on here a few months back about a man in California who was asked to leave a tea party rally for distributing pro-life literature. I agree wholeheartedly with the Tea Party’s stance on fiscal responsibilty. But I’m sad that they won’t go near issues of social responsibility like abortion.
