You can dominate the world market without touching the US market. Considering just the US market is simply illogical, especially in light of the US market nearing saturation, and the biggest markets in the world - India, China, and SE Asia - just starting to see any real adoption

And my post showed Apple dominates both the US and the world markets. I am not considering "just the US market." Nokia dominated because of their worldwide sales, but they practically zeroed out in US sales and plunged in worldwide sales. That coupled with with Apple's rise in both US and worldwide sales puts Apple on top WORLDWIDE.

Yes, last quarter WORLDWIDE Apple shipped 20.3 million iPhones, while WORLDWIDE Nokia shipped 16.7 million smartphones.

Now, you claim Nokia has a big presence in the US - put up or shut up. What is their big presence in the US?

Nokia's big volume presence in the US, as well as the world, is in standard phones, not smart phones. Their smart phone segment has been dropping steadily year after year. Nokia realized this, which is why they're dropping Symbian and betting the future on a Windows Phone partnership.

Android has already surpassed iOS for mobile devices - even if you include the iPad and iTouch.

Sorry, they’re on the slide down, and they show no signs of slowing. Losing market share for tablets (your graphs show nothing), and already hoping to cling to 3rd place in smartphones...

Don't know, don't care. We were talking about worldwide sales, remember? That was your main point, that Nokia still beats Apple worldwide, although Apple leads in the US. Well, Nokia doesn't beat Apple worldwide anymore.

Android is represented by over twenty manufacturers. We're talking about manufacturers, Apple vs. Nokia, not platforms such as iOS vs. Symbian vs. Android.

Apple is in first place in smart phones and tablets, and likely to remain there. However, the combined marketshare of dozens of companies together would reasonably eventually eclipse the marketshare of one lone company, Apple.
