As long as it’s everything south of Santa Rosa.

The State of Eastern Sierra sounds better than anything with California in it.

Every couple of years, someone comes up with a new map and proposal.
A chance? I’d give this proposal < 1% chance. Just my guess.

We might be laughing about this but, it was reported that North Dakota was admitted into the union illegally and that they may put it up for a vote to legalize their statehood.

If I were them, I would vote to get the hell out of this country.

It can be done legally, it's just not easy.

Ultimately Congress will have to approve.

Get out from under the tyranny of L.A. is the impetus here.

There was an issue of National Lampoon years ago that had Ronald Reagan’s idea of the world map. It had the San Francisco Bay area color coded the same as the Warsaw Pact nations.

I think there's a compelling argument to be made. The new state would have 13 million residents making it 5th in population. That's a huge number of people currently held hostage by a narrow coastal band of the state encompassing Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Since SCOTUS ruled State Senators must represent roughly equal numbers, a state government can easily be dominated by a mega city while the rest of a state is little more than a slush fund for the inane policies and demands of that city.

It was by no accident every state got an equal number of senators in the federal government.

Of course it can be don legally. Theoretically the parent state must give permission for the break away state. But since Virginian never gave its permission for WV to break away and form a new state, and Congress recognized it anyway, that law may not have to be followed so closely.

I have suggested that several states split and form new states with two new conservative Senators. Split eastern and western Washington, split Portland and the suburbs from the rest of Oregon, split Chicago and its burbs from Illinois, split Philadelphia and burbs from the rest of Pennsylvania, split Milwaukee and Madison from the rest of Wisconsin.

Not without the consent of the Feds.

OTOH, maybe they can convince Soetoro to expel them. :)

Splitting California into 2 states would be the equivalent of removing all the milk from a cow’s teet or forming an offshore tax shelter.

The dirty rotten liberal California scum that infest the bankrupt parts of the state will never let it happen.

Think the DNC will let go of 55 Electoral votes and allow 2 added conservative senators?

The DNC will fight this to the death.
