That’s a handsome boat. Motor sailer, I believe, from the high freeboard and cabin roof. For years I dreamed of owning one. More living space than the typical sailboat.

But when SHTF, won’t coastal waters be swarming with high speed pirate boats that would put Somalis to shame?

The photo I used earlier was just grabbed off google as an example of the sailboat escape pod option. This is my boat, built by me. Right now, today, you can buy a used 35 footer that can cross oceans for 25-100K, depending on its condition etc. You don't need a bigger boat like mine.

As far as pirates swarming coastal areas, one, they suck gasoline and that won't be available, and two, coastal areas are easy to avoid. The open ocean is where you go to sit out crunch time and await events. I have spent 60 days at sea (Guam-California) and could go 200 days if I needed to, say, during a pandemic.

These are my escape pod.
