A Tennessee man sustained a punctured lung and cracked ribs following a brutal beating from a team of police deputies - while he already in handcuffs.
After being stripped naked, the man was kicked and shocked repeatedly with a Taser gun. The January 23 incident was caught on tape by video equipment fixed to the vehicle of a Humphreys county sheriff deputy.
The victim, Darren T. Ring, 34, of New Johnsonville is requesting to be released from jail where he has been held in lieu of bond for more than five months.
Humpreys County deputies descended on Ring after responding to a report of gunshots in Waverly. Ring was not arrested for firing the shots but was drunk when the deputies arrived, reports show.
In a grand jury indictment, Ring was charged with three counts of assaulting an officer, resisting arrest, and a parole violation.
However, the video footage shows deputies repeatedly telling Ring to stop resisting arrest while he is incapacitated laying facedown in the snow with at least two deputies on top of him

Well- since we only 'join' the video after he's been striped and is on the ground in the snow - by this time, we could conclude he's already had some blows - he gets a punchered lung and broken ribs - ever try to roll over with broken ribs and a punchered lung? Then he gets tazed more than once - ever get tazed? How easy is it to move right after?
He's on the ground naked - how much of a danger can he be to a herd of armed men at this point?
If they can't take control at that point - they don't belong behind a badge. Lucky, I guess, he wasn't shot.

So then a taser and some stick time is going to make him comply? Object being they should start with the lesser force level and advance it as need be. (How long do they think he would stay half naked in the cold snow before asking to be go to jail?) Use of force should be in their manual and training, of course who knows.

Actually, when they were ordering him to roll over on his stomach BEFORE tasing him, I believe I heard him say, “I cain’t”.
Adrenaline flows in cops, too, and it looks to me like they were under the influence of it. I get the points you have made so far on this thread — but IMHO these five cops GROSSLY over-reacted and should be disciplined for it.
In fact if this guy was half as dangerous as dirtboy contends he was then by not shooting him they were clearly negligent in their duty by subjecting their fellow officers to imminent danger.
This video is edited for TV, but from what I see I don't see enough justification for the level of force (i.e., I don't see violent resistance from Ring).
I'd like to see the entire video, though, as TV stations are known for editing video to make a story bigger.
TBI (I believe Tennessee Bureau of Investigation) is investigating the case as well, so it will be outside the control of the local prosecutor and grand jury, so we might get the entire story at some point.

I agree that is a procedural point that needs re-examination. Adding on to what you said, maybe Taze once and then let him think about it for a couple minutes in the cold.
I never said that the entire video was release, what I did say that if there was any video which justifed the cops actions that they would have damned well released it. And it’s clear now that they is more and likely no video for the cops to show that would justify their actions.
Now most likely all the cops can hope for is a jury made up of people who like to beat drunks.
Given the charges against the individual in question, 3 counts of resisting arrest and a parole violation as a result of resisting arrest, and adding what we saw in the video, what is the most reasonable explanation minus hypothetical maybes and might haves.
Let the evidence sort itself out. Like I said, I’d like to see the entire video myself. And will keep an eye out for it.

If you check the thread it was you who kept insisting that we were not seeingt the before video, not me. And now that they is some of the before video available I still don’t see anything that this guy did that warranted the treatment he recieved. Some people just like to beat drunks.
From what was shown on the TV station, I would be inclinded to agree. I'd like to see the entire video, however, as TV stations are not above editing out content to make a story more spectacular.
I remember the Rodney King video. I went along with it until ABC played it in slow motion and you could see King kept trying to get up. Changed my entire opinion of that episode.
Feel the same way here, I would like to see the entire video. Were the cops just keying on a drunk for being obnoxious or did he lash out and kick? The story is largely being told from the public defender's point of view, I'd like to see more of the raw story.
I do agree the grand jury indictment is not a reliable indicator.
