Mohammad's original claim (in the story of his life written up in Damascus) is that he was interested in reforming Judaism ~ then a well established religion all over the Middle East.

LARGE numbers of really old Moslem families in the Peninsula claim their origins among adherents to Judaism.

Now, would your typical modern New Yorker attending a Reformed Jewish Temple think of becoming a Moslem?

Probably a second ~ not more. Then he'd have to begin believing in God.
