Great move with the limited power we currently have.
“The governments mandate of ethanol usage distorts energy markets and raises prices for consumers.”
When combined with state or local mandates that retail vehicle gasoline have 10% ethanol, it means that the distributor who does the blending will have to pay whatever price he must in order to secure the ethanol he must have by law in order to sell the gasoline. This implies that the only corn that will be available for food use will come after all energy-related uses for corn are satisfied.
It is just foolish to burn corn which we can can use for food (even if used to feed cattle or poultry first) when we could be burning some non-food fuel. Further, we are told we must do this to be “sustainable”, yet the corn we are growing is on ground that sits atop a vast ocean of coal that we cannot mine because to do so is not “sustainable”. Go figure.
If a lot of people move to electric vehicles, are the enviros going to insist that we burn corn to generate the electricity to recharge their batteries? As wacky as it sounds, that is exactly the same line of reasoning.
