.......With both of them in a theoretical nomination contest, theyre neck-and-neck among Republicans and Republican-leaning Independents (17 percent for Romney, 15 percent for Palin) with the rest of the hopefuls lined up well behind in single digits.
But if Palin were to say that she wont run, Romney rises to 19 percent with nobody else closer than 7 percentage points behind.....
Meanwhile, some conservatives reflecting this intensity of feeling that Gallup detects are speaking out about the dangers of a Palin candidacy.
Looking at her unfavorability ratings, Commentary magazine blogger Peter Wehner says, These numbers are dreadful . If Palin were to be the GOP nominee, she would lead the ticket to a crushing loss for Republicans at almost every level.
Its certainly true that some of the criticisms of Palin have been unfair and driven by an almost irrational animus toward her, writes Wehner, who worked in the Reagan and both Bush administrations. She is not a woman without talents, including the ability to generate media attention and excitement among some elements of the GOP base.
But its also true that she has brought much of the criticisms on herself, he continues. Palin radiates a sense of grievance that is antithetical to the Reagan style and spirit. And in interviews and on matters of policy, she often comes across as shallow. The problem isnt that shes not a public intellectual; its that she doesnt seem able to sustain an argument beyond simply reciting talking points....
Some Democrats salivate over the prospect of a Palin nomination. No intellectual match for Obama, they say. Prone to verbal gaffes. Easy to mock.
Others warn not to be so dismissive.....

Where she was being bankrupted (along with friends and co-workers) because anyone could file a suit against her and she was required to foot the bill for her own defense -- not to mention she was so inundated with this crap the state was suffering. Progressives are a mean, vindictive, deep pocketed den of vipers. There was a good Lt. Gov to step in and do the work of the state and Palin was no longer a target of lawsuits once she left office.
Where would she be today if she had remained in office as their target, suffering at their hands, on their terms?
As too often happens this thread will die because the “powers that be” have removed all the “topic” headings for this thread.
Sigh.
Oh they’re just twisting themselves in knots trying to convince themselves she can’t win. I think they fear she’ll actually get things done thus proving how hopelessly entrenched and useless the powers that be truly are.
Cindie
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?
Zactly. She did the right thing.
Yeah, that quote caught my attention too. Like Sarah invented the media jihad against her that started as soon as she was named as McCain’s running mate. They spent more time looking for dirt in three days than they did on Obama in three years. When they couldn’t find anyting, they went after her family. Now, if she fires back, she is radiating “a sense of grievance”. If she didn’t they would complain that she isn’t tough enough. Sarah handles it just right, she fires back, refuses to allow leftie media to do edited interview hit peices like those Gibson and Couric famously did, but keeps a smile on her face and lets her enthusiasm for Alaska, America, and life in general shine through.
If you want to see a politican with a “sense of grievance”, just look at any Democrat.
Really, how the GOP and MSM are treating Palin is very similar to the numbers they did on Reagan when he started campaigning.
I’ll “sigh” with you on that one...
THEY want to take money from producers and give it to non-producers BECAUSE THEY BELIEVE THAT IT IS RIGHT, MORAL, TO DO SO.
WE want to stop them because WE BELIEVE THAT TAKING MONEY FROM PRODUCERS BY FORCE TO GIVE TO NON-PRODUCERS IS IMMORAL.
The "normal" Republicans do not disagree with the morality of redistribution, they just have various pragmatic objections (i.e., whatever redistribution scheme is being discussed is inefficient, or creates unexpected outcomes, or some such).
What the Palin insurgency is about is that there is a sizeable faction in this country, most of whom are nominal Republicans, who think redistribution is immoral. They are not represented by either party, and the election of a President who is ramping up redistribution because of his belief in its moral superiority has clarified their thinking.
Redistribution is modern slavery. " It may seem strange that any men should dare to ask a just God's assistance in wringing their bread from the sweat of other men's faces", but that's where we are at.
America will not continue to be divided on this essential question. As Lincoln said in 1858, "Under the operation of that policy, that agitation has not only, not ceased, but has constantly augmented. In my opinion, it will not cease, until a crisis shall have been reached, and passed. "A house divided against itself cannot stand." I believe this government cannot endure, permanently half slave and half free. I do not expect the Union to be dissolved -- I do not expect the house to fall -- but I do expect it will cease to be divided. It will become all one thing or all the other."
Palin is the one candidate who can stand for those of us who find the Republicrat acceptance of redistribution to be immoral.
None of us can really know one way or another. It’s interesting to guess, but impossible to conclude anything with any certainty. Whatever the outcome, the will-she/won’t-she suspense contributes to her mythos, whether it be as a candidate or private citizen.
The useful idiots may believe it's right and moral but the drivers do it because they are grifting money and power off the process.
Ditto that Hugin.
Big DITTO!
Spot on!
If Sarah Palin said something like that, it would be reported that she was “radiating a sense of grievance.”
