Idaho to be first Chinese state
The Examiner ^ | May 31, 2011 | Bill Turner

Posted on 05/31/2011 8:02:52 PM PDT by Tolerance Sucks Rocks

Governor Butch Otter, in league with notorious Marxist, B. Hussein Obama, have hatched a plan to make Idaho the first Chinese owned state in America. Otter and company have named this Project 60. Sounds innocent enough, until you realize that Otter and his minions are afraid to call it what it is, globalization of America and surrender of sovereignty. If it were called that someone may want to charge Otter with sedition. Under B. Hussein Obama it has become increasingly difficult to do business in America, unless you are from a foreign nation. Idaho, under the stewardship of Governor Butch Otter, has opened the door for a Chinese invasion wherein the sovereignty of Idaho and America will be sodomized by all parties involved.

Project 60 takes advantage of a federal program that grants permanent residency to foreign nationals, in this case, Chinese. This program comes with special tax exemptions to the foreign firms moving here. American companies do not get the tax exemptions; So much for the Constitution and equal protection. Idaho is struggling financially and it is widely known that America is broke, so why tax breaks for the Chinese? China wants to limit its exposure to America’s debt. China needs to maintain its trade deficits, so it does not collapse like a house of cards. In order to accomplish this, China must unload currency and excess dollars. Buying Idaho is a good way to accomplish this. But, do not worry, China is looking at buying Ohio, Michigan and Pennsylvania as well. China will not allow its currency to become stronger, so it must eliminate some of America’s IOU’s. What better way to do this than buy America?

This article is extremely heavy on hyperbole and fearmongering, and very light on facts. When going to read the rest of the article, the writer complains about letting Chinese companies open in Idaho, without showing any worry of other countries opening in the US, such as Japanese and German. He jumps around to try connecting dots and doesnt stay on a single point for more than a few sentences.

In looking at the Project 60 website, it looks like anyone who invests $1 million in a city or $500k in a rural area worth of jobs can get permanent residency. IT uses the EB-5 law, passed by Congress in 1990 to attract foreign businesses to set up shop in the US.

This is definitely a globalism inspired move, by trying to have more trade relations with other countries, but it does not look like “selling Idaho.”

1990, Congress approved the EB-5, which allows a foreigner to gain residency if they invest 500k or 1 million, depending on the area. It is available to every state, and is like being used by them all.

In FY2010, 772 EB-5 visas were awarded to Chinese nationals, the most of any country. But total EB-5’s went down from 4,218 in 2009 to 1,885 in 2010. The EB-5 can gain permanent residence, as with other visas, but not citizenship. OTher countries where EB-5 applicants come from include South Korea, Great Britain, Iran, Mexico, and Canada.

It appears that Idaho is taking advantage of this law to sell opportunities to foreign investors because the local investors, for whatever their reason may be, are not doing it.

The reason why people accumulate money is because they can spend it in the future. It’s the only reason why anyone would want money. The Chinese have been accumulating US money for a long time. The Chinese just want to spend their money now, while it still has some value.

The Obama Admin is not particularly treasonous in this regard; the difference from its Democrat and Republican predecessors is only a matter of degree, not of kind. The USG has been borrowing from the Chinese for decades now, and the Fed and Treasury have been eroding its value continuously. Can anybody really blame the Chinese for acting to secure real value for their money?

Does nobody know the Scripture? “The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender.” (Proverbs 22:7)

I know quite a few Idahoans who aren’t likely to go along with such a scenario.

Having said that, Otter is a lunkhead anyhow.

I remember the same thing being said about the Japanese in the 1980's and they've been in economic decline ever since.

Re: Idaho to be first Chinese state

Them ChiCom’s, they do make for a crude but yet convenient-ready-punch-bag and political capital come election time isn’t it?

Hell! The Donald is employing it as his main course; his possible running mate Sarah is capitalizing on it as well; Obi-Wan Kenobi exploited it when he made a bit for the top office and won; even Allen West of FL http://news.antiwar.com/2011/05/31/rep-west-us-needs-bigger-navy-to-fight-china/ is attempting to out do Robert Gates in the exploiting of the ChiComs as political capital for the secretariat job (???); and now Governor Butch Otter of Idaho is jumping in on the circle the wagon’s game?

Strange set of circumstances:

late 90’s, they brought out [President David Palmer] and Bam!, El Presidente BHO hits the scene.

2005, they brought out “Commander in chief” with Geena Davis as the big man and BAM! every women in America started to jump in on the El Presidente opportunity bandwagon.

Now, somebody is bringing out Idaho as the first Chinese State, does that mean we’ll being hearing the BIGGEST BAM of them all here???

Does the term [Senile] strike any cords here???

Sounds like a perfect getaway for Mexican drug dealers looking to upgrade their circumstances.

No lo se = May wen ti(tee) I don’t know it.

May wen ti is the Mandarin informal equivalent for "No problem"...thus my correction in #17.

Informally, wo bu ji dao is close to no lo se...I don't know.

Me being a mai gua(American) I get by with a lot of really bad Mandarin...but my Tai yu (Taiwanese) is coming along.

I dunno, I don't think its such a bad deal. Foreigners owning assets in the US, indirectly makes it easier for US investors to hang on to assets overseas. Afterall, foreigned owned US assets in America are on American soil. So, any nationalization of US assets overseas will easily get the same treatment here.

Chinese purchase of US assets is simply another way of stashing their cash. In this case, it creates jobs. Just as US financial institutions stash money in China via investments, e.g., factories, business partnerships, joint ventures, etc., the Chinese are doing the same here by investing in businesses.

The world is more borderless, economically, than it is politically.

Umm...
Right, I take it your not from around here Pilgrim; and whatever your smoking you better stop its messing with your mind! I’ll believe Butch Otter is in league with the Obama and the Chi-coms when I see it. It’s hard to find more conservative governors than Otter (with the possible exception of the gas tax hike he tried a few years ago, but the state legislature taught him a lesson). This may not be the best move, but you are not going to convince me Butch Otter has sold out to Obama.

Would someone mind explaining why, from an economic standpoint, having the Chinese firms invest in our economy would be such a bad thing? Getting firms to invest in Idaho lowers the unemployment rate and stimulates growth in the economy. No one seems to mind (other than the Liberals) when American companies invest overseas.

Interesting bit of history: Idaho actually had a fairly large Chinese population a long time ago, as the Chinese provided much of the labor for the railroad when it was built. Chinden road in Boise is so named as a shortened version of ‘Chinese Gardens’ many of which were located in that area of Boise. I guess this wouldn’t be our first rodeo with the Chinese.

Sorry to double post, but I just had to point out the fallacy here. It is quite common for state’s and municipalities to offer taxbreaks and other deals to lure businesses into locating in their area. If your interested look up “smoke stack chasing.” It’s done for American firms all the time and up to now no one has questioned the constituaionality of such policies.

Also, Idaho has a Sorrental Lactalis plant in Nampa. Are we being invaded by the French. Speaking of cheese, Idaho has a Glanbia plant in Gooding; I suppose Idaho is being invaded by the Irish.

This project is a bit different than the normal incentives given to encourage a company to locate in a particular state.

I believe this is a 50 square mile zone that will be owned and operated by the Chinese, including bringing over Chinese workers to manufacture goods in this country.

I’m not really sure of the details and I’m too tired to look them up, but do it.

Did some research if you want to read the law and the governors take on it here's the site. http://www.project60.idaho.gov/
If you want the lib side of the story, sad that it seems more reasonable, here's the Statesman take on it.

I would point out that the free trade zone doesn't give a piece of Idaho to the Chinese. In fact it appears to be a limit on where these investors can locate their businesses. Also keep in mind these investors are private individuals not the Chinese government.

There is really no such thing as “private Chinese investors”.

I know what free trade zones are. These free trade zones are part of the Agenda 21. They are not intended to benefit the US, just the opposite. These “free trade zones” are usually located in what the Agenda 21 refers to as “Gateways” or hubs of multi-modal transportation corridors.

There is so much more to this that I don’t feel like explaining to someone who obviously has his mind made up.

Obama and the Democrats are selling off America to pay off Obama’s huge gambling debt to China.

By the way, the free trade zones appear to involve FEDERAL tax exemptions, not just state tax exemptions.

Just exactly how do you see this trade zone benefitting the local Idaho residents?
