After the failure of Operation Market-Garden, Eisenhower said, "I didn't just approve of Market-Garden, I insisted on it.", taking a lot of the heat off Monty. A real leader knows when to step up to the plate.

There is a story about Eisenhower, regarding D-Day...apparently he had written a speech and put it in his pocket that was to be used if D-day failed...he essentially stated that, the US armed forces performed their duties flawlessly but were unsuccessful, blame to be place on him for not choosing the right moment....real leadership.
