Courage? Mr. Obama still shows none
Almost every American is relieved that justice has come to Osama bin Laden. However, the praise for Mr. Barack Obama has reached nearly ludicrous extremes from worshipful Obots.
Let us consider reality honestly. The intelligence information making the mission possible came from the CIA and included “enhanced interrogation,” both of which Mr. Obama condemned in the past. The SEAL teams have been under development for years; no credit is due Mr. Obama, who has no military expertise whatsoever.
In past dealings with Iran and other Muslim autocracies, Mr. Obama has been apologetic, manifesting a servile demeanor and a flexible spine. His position on Libya was vacillating and tardy, and has been characterized as “leading from behind.” There has been no detectable policy at all on Syria. He has refused to acknowledge the threat of militant Islamism, and will not use the word “war” nor label “terrorism” for what it is.
The SEALs exhibited courage of the ultimate degree, facing death. What personal threat was posed to Mr. Obama from his decision to order the action? What made it “courageous”? The militant Islamists already hate us, and have for decades.
The mission the SEALs carried out was a brilliant success, but the administration, in disarray, has issued at least four different recounts describing it. Egocentric to the end, in his short speech to the nation announcing the achievement, Mr. Obama used the first person singular pronoun 12 times.
I am delighted and relieved that this country has developed the intelligence and the technical means to carry out the mission. I am grateful that the administration displayed long-overdue decisiveness in ordering it to proceed. However, I fail to see that as an act of courage.
