It is not charitable or Christ-like to confiscate other people's wealth under threat of imprisonment, and then dole out a portion of those gains to people deemed worthy by the thieves.
Al Franken, like supply-siders, marxists, hippies, saints, jockeys, bowlers, talk-show hosts and senators are all perfectly free to act charitably by voluntarily giving a generous portion of their own wealth to the poor.

Exactly. The left loves to quote all those biblical injunctions about giving to the poor and less fortunate. What they fail to grasp is that GIVING and CHARITY must be done on an individual basis and must be done voluntarily. It’s the whole thing about good works without Faith being meaningless. When government does this through taxation with the threat of prison, it isn’t charity it becomes confiscation.
