Birth notices for Barack Obama were published in the Honolulu Advertiser on August 13 and the Honolulu Star-Bulletin on August 14, 1961.

Were the Nordyke twins notices the same?

I saw both newpaper’s birth announcements. They are line by line identicle. It tells one that they were sent out in batches by the Hawaii Dept. of Health. Also, if you look at the Nordyke twins birth announcement for this thread, you will notice that the signature of the attendant was dated 8-11-61, which was 6 days after the birth on 8-5-61. It tells me that the hospital did signatures in batches too.

Notice that on the document there are check boxes for the type of birthing attendant that facilitated the delivery. The attendant, which appears to be C.O. McInister has the box, “M ER” checked. Notice there is box for “Midwife.” That tells me that a midwife could perform a home delivery and have the mother and child taken to the hospital where the birth statistics would be filed while she recuperated.

Home births where the wife does not enter the hospital would have a different route for the birth statistics. Anyone could file the report at the Dept. of Health and it would generate a birth document and announcements to the local newspapers. Births in another country would be filed in the same way as a home delivery.
