As it is my analogy I assure you that the owner doesn’t agree with the friends behavior. Had the friend simply reminded the neighbor not to cut through the yard that would have been fine. Adding mockery and insults made the owner embarrassed.

That was the result in your imaginary scenario.

In my imaginary scenario the owner came back out to the porch,
handed me a beer and thanked me for telling the trespasser off.

He says she needed to be told off but that it would be impolitic for him to do so.
