"The *only* way for the Republicans to avoid the trap being set for us is by having a staunchly conservative candidate with a pair of stones stand up and start being as vocal as Trump."
Good point, I have not seen one step up yet. The longer it takes, the weaker they look as they come to the party late.
If no conservative steps forward, a leader with "brass stones" and a VP that is conservative works for me.
Trump/West would be my choice.
Splitting the ticket happens also when staunch RINO's vote for RINO's rather than switch to create the winning ticket, while telling everyone else they are throwing their votes away.

Trump would have to win the Republican nomination before he would have opportunity to select a VP candidate -- whether that be West or any other. If Trump does win the nomination ... I'll send you a bottle of scotch (the good stuff) if he selects West for his VP. I don't think it's going to happen. Once the nomination is in the bag, and the more conservative candidates have become victims of the primary process and removed from the race, Trump has no reason to play conservative any longer. He'll swing back to the left faster than you can say "Egads! We've been hoodwinked!" I have a great deal of admiration for Trump as a businessman, but I do not confuse him with conservatives. Expecting him to swing to the right is almost as unlikely as the expectations some had for Obama to swing to the center. It's all talk and no movement.
