Republicans In Name Only

I wrote a guest column which appeared in the Galveston Daily News on Saturday. I find it rather humorous that I have received so much blowback from my fellow conservatives, many who seem ready to embrace Judge Mallia with open arms, and sing Kumbaya.

Well the republican party has enough Republicans In Name Only (aka RINO’s) and I’m tired of them infesting our party. These cowards run as Republicans because they know the only way they can win elections is if they have an “R” next to their name on the ballot. You know who they are: Susan Collins, Olympia Snowe, Lindsay Graham, Scott Brown, Chuck Grassley, and the list goes on-and-on.

So we have a Democrat Judge who donates money to socialist organizations such as the AFL-CIO and my fellow Republicans think this is okay. They justify their thinking because they’re friends with his cousins brother or shook hands with him at some obligatory function that all politicians must attend. Well that’s all fine and dandy but him being a nice guy doesn’t make him a conservative and it’s beyond self evident that Judge Mallia is not.

So, Todd: rather than throw around an acronym (RINO) that apparently has no fixed meaning other than "doesn't agree with me on X", why don't you do something useful instead:

Tell us what defines a True Republican.

And no fair just telling us what you think -- to do us a real service, why don't you define "True Republican" in a way that actually embodies what the preponderance of Republicans actually believe.

Good luck.

From the Galveston Daily News:

Mallia switched parties, but not principles

How about RINO - if they had a D beside their name, they would be be a typical democrat.

I am sick of the RINOs, too. Fine, so RINOs think that Conservatives are not really Republicans. So, what do we do? Form a third party and let the leftist have the Republican party and the Democrat party and the Communist and Socialist parties? When will we stop abandoning our ground for the invaders?

Yeah, yeah, you're sick of the RINOs. We've all heard that thousands of times on these stupid threads.

The problem is, though, that it has no point of reference. It assumes that there is some agreed-upon definition of what constitutes a True Republican.

Well, I'm still waiting.... what, precisely, is that agreed-upon definition?

When you say, "stop abandoning our ground," what "ground" might that be?

One of the GOP's biggest problems right now, is that it does not actually know what it stands for. Everybody's a RINO, and that includes you.

Anyone who doesn’t want to roll federal spending back to the level of 10 or more years ago, is a RINO.

Anyone who wants to raise taxes and continue bureaucratically regulating businesses to death, is a RINO.

Anyone who wants to disarm law abiding Americans, is a RINO.

Anyone who wants Amnesty for law breaking invaders is a RINO.

Anyone who doesn’t want to secure our borders, is a RINO.

Are you a RINO?

You still have not told me what constitutes a True Republican.

You've got a nice pile of buzzwords and catch-phrases there, though.
