...found an article stating that he had been privately tutored by missionaries to prepare him for the test to qualify to come to the US for higher education. IIRC UH was the only school that accepted him.

That has been addressed further back in the thread, he went to the school at Maseno, left in 1953, at Maseno they learned basic skills like carpentry and tailoring...he would have been 17 years of age. The teacher from Maseno school maintains that the kenyan went to the US shortly after he completed at Maseno...

And any further preparation to attend a college anywhere (which he certainly would have needed) might have taken place ANYWHERE.
