The not a civil ceremony article -
You are taking the following quote at that link...
“Kezia’s marriage to Barack Snr was not a civil ceremony so there was no suggestion of bigamy...”
...from a “barman” (bartender) so I wouldn't put too much weight on either his opinion of Kenyan law or Kezia’s.
Here is the section of the Telegraph article where “barman” Ian Manners says (incorrectly I believe, based on the Kenyan Marriage Act of 1902) that “there was no suggestion of bigamy.” That is contradicted by the law and the Daily Mail story based presumably on information from Kezia saying BHO senior was viewed as a bigamist and a drunk.
begin quote from the Telegraph:
Mrs Obama’s daughter Auma, now divorced and living in Nairobi, where Abongo, Abo and Bernard also are, married a British man called Ian Manners in 1997. He lives near Mrs Obama in Bracknell and visits her frequently.
“Kezia’s marriage to Barack Snr was not a civil ceremony so there was no suggestion of bigamy,” he said. Mr Manners went to Mr Obama’s wedding in Chicago and five years later the future presidential candidate was in Wokingham for the Briton's marriage to Auma.
“Everybody who was at the wedding knew that he was a state senator so that was quite something,” he said. “Barack was at the reception standing between him and my business partner and myself. And the barman said, ‘Tthere you go Mike and Ian you are standing between the future president of the United States.’”
