At least one state official is following the rules. Maybe
things would’ve been different if she’d been there when
Donofrio brought the lawsuit.

Fresh out of the starting gates, former world-champion sprinter Carl Lewis has been tripped up regarding his political ambitions.

New Jersey’s top election official declared Tuesday that Lewis, who recently expressed interest in pursuing a seat in the New Jersey Senate, failed to meet the requirement of having four years of state residence before seeking elective office.

“I find that respondent was not a resident of New Jersey for the constitutionally required four years prior to the date of the election for the office he now seeks,” wrote Secretary of State Kim Guadagno, ordering Lewis’s name removed from the June Democratic primary ballot. Lewis can appeal the decision.
