I could put anyone’s name on a story to add a air of legitimacy even if they in fact have privately told me they have deep concerns.
In Europe, people rarely go out in public to accuse you of perpetrating a scam.
I could invite you to see my product and say that it is the greatest product ever and you came to see it. People would wrongly conclude that you are endorsing the product. Now in the US you would issue a press release saying this isn’t the case to correct the record and report accurately how you really feel. In Europe, they wouldn’t want to cause any friction because nothing said was untrue, it is only the readers assumption.
